throwing away the wtf is the quick and easy solution for someone whom has already logged on to nostalrius and then developed problems later.
before that you need to set your realmlist to the correct login. use textedit or any simple text progam to open up the document titled realmlist.wtf in your wow folder and change the info in there to either of these exactly:
set realmlist login2.nostalrius.org
or
set realmlist login.nostalrius.org
If you've already done that and nothing works look into this. Use your simple text program to open up config.wtf, it's in the WTF folder.
In it's pristine unadulterated state, it should read exactly this:
SET hwDetect "0"
SET gxColorBits "24"
SET gxDepthBits "24"
SET gxResolution "1366x768"
SET gxRefresh "60"
SET gxVSync "0"
SET gxMultisampleQuality "0.000000"
SET gxFixLag "0"
SET fullAlpha "1"
SET doodadAnim "0"
SET lodDist "80.000000"
SET SmallCull "0.080000"
SET DistCull "350.000000"
SET frillDensity "8"
SET farclip "200.000000"
SET particleDensity "0.300000"
SET movie "0"
SET readTOS "1"
SET readEULA "1"
SET realmList "login2.nostalrius.org"
SET realmName "Nostalrius Begins"
If you still have problems:
Check your firewall setting and/or try running as administrator
Right-click the Battle.net Desktop Application icon and select Properties.
Select the Compatibility tab.
Click Change settings for all users.
Under Privilege Level, check Run this program as administrator.
Click Apply.
