Concerns.

by pythonmsh » Mon Mar 30, 2015 1:25 am

I'm really liking this server and I like the idea of it. There's a huge community too it seems. But the problem is I'm from the US and I get horrible ping. It's even worse tonight. Wasn't too bad last night. I have ~150 ping on a good day here and over 400 tonight.

Is there anything whatsoever that can be done about this?

I really want to commit to this server but if it's going to be really laggy I'm gonna have a hard time doing so.

Hi pythonmsh,

I'm in Western Canada and I average 160-200. I have never seen it above 200 and I'm at 173 right now. Anything averaging over 200 in the US is probably your computer, LAN or WAN and not necessarily the server itself.

Unfortunately I can't get an echo response from the server (possibly due to their ddos proection) so I'm not sure how we can track or trace this if it's the WAN such as a bad connection between your ISP and the Server's ISP. Hopefully someone else will chime in with a solution for this.

Have you verified that it's not your local connection? You could try checking your Ping to your Router and Google.

I'm not sure how accurate this is but it was mentioned here that deleting your WDB folder may help.

If your install is in the C:\Program Files (x86)\World of Warcraft Classic\ folder than you'll also want to try deleting the C:\Users\%username%\AppData\Local\VirtualStore\Program Files (x86)\World of Warcraft Classic\WDB folder.

I'd recommend sticking with it though, this server is a real blast!

A lot of people were saying they were having trouble today. I'd just like to personally get it to around 100 if not lower. I wasn't sure if there was any tricks or anything.

Are you still having trouble with your ping? If so, is it steady around 400 or does it burst?

I doubt that it will be possible to get around 100 without relocating the server which will probably not be considered in the near future. I assume that there's more important matters on their mind.

I almost always get 92-97ms from the US east coast. Last weekend I was getting extremely high ping, like 500+ but close to 7k people online at the time. Not sure if that many people online can effect your ping though.

It may have to do more with your location or with your hardware... mine has been consistently 90 - 110 ms for the past 2 weeks on the East Coast

I had 18k MS yesterday lol. When I trace the server there is heaps of packet loss internationally.
