Combo-generating abilities do not refund energy on parry, instead they only refund it on dodge/miss. Below is the earliest credible source I was able to find, confirming that combo-generating attacks should refund energy on miss dodge and parry:

The source is from August 2006, however, it is still applicable to Nostalrius, because the energy refund mechanic for combo-generating attacks was never changed throughout entire vanilla (refer to individual patch notes for proof).

If anyone has supporting or contradictory evidence I urge them to present it here.

I reported the bug regarding the refund of Energy on Dodged / Missed specials during beta, and at that time I used as a main source the same website you've linked.

I used the article linked in the article you've linked, Energy Regeneration Oddities, in which the author explains Dodged and Missed combo-awarding abilities only cost a fraction of their energy cost.

The author didn't say a word about Parried attacks in this article, and since it was from 2006 while the one you linked was from BC, Parries were kinda left behind. To be honest I checked a few videos too to see misses / dodge, but failed to see any Paries so since it wasn't 100% sure only Misses & Dodges were scripted.

The authors did his tests on Kurinaxx in AQ20, which could explain why he didn't get any Parry (i.e. no Parry from behind but still Dodges) and didn't mention it in his first article.

Nonetheless, maybe the staff would like another proof like an actual footage, or maybe another post confirming that nothing changed regarding Energy refund on Parries between Vanilla & BC, something else that could counteract the fact that nothing about Parry is said prior to BC.

A small clarification - the source in my OP is from August 2006, which is several months before TBC. Moreover, it is likely that the author based his analysis on data that was collected during several months before the article was published, thus the source data is likely from patches 1.11 and 1.12.

Energy refund on missed/dodged/parried attacks was never changed in the entire vanilla and TBC (if anyone can prove this wrong with patch notes, please contribute), therefore it's not really important to know the exact time of the source, it's enough to know it was roughly from late-vanilla.

I agree that video footage would be the best confirmation, however in most PvE videos you'll never see a parried attack for obvious reasons. You'll need PvP videos, but even there, only a few classes can parry and it happens rarely due to rogues' PvP style (stunlock, moving behind target, kiting).

I will search for a video when I have time (can't do so at work), but I hope other rogues, who are sick of losing 40 energy every time a mob parries (especially frustrating while leveling or grinding at 60), would contribute.

You're right, your source is about BC but indeed was written during Vanilla.
And you're right about the rest too, I was just clarifying why it's scripted the way it is now .

Even though we don't have a video, I agree Parries should be scripted to be handled like Misses and Dodges currently are, since there is a 99,99% chance this is how it used to be on retail. And just change it back if someone find any 100% proof it wasn't.
