Clarification on multi-box restrictions?

by tacmaster » Wed Apr 08, 2015 12:11 am

I was looking for some clarification on the restrictions placed on multi-boxing.

Here is an excerpt from the Terms of Use on the subject:

"How about multi-boxing and bots?
You're not allowed to use any form of program to control multiple characters at once. You are, however, allowed to be logged on, say, two characters. The only thing we allow multiple characters for, is professions and banking, this means you cannot /follow level 2 characters at once. This will result in a ban of one of the two, and if repeated, both. It is also not a problem if you are, for instance, three family members in the same house, playing at the same time. Each multi-box case will be judged individually, so don't worry if you're not doing anything wrong. What you can't do, is PvP with multiple characters, Dungeon with multiple characters, Raid with multiple characters, etc.

If you are two people playing two characters - no problem. If you are 5 people playing 5 characters - no problem.
Once a player get caught, GM shall ask him which account he want to keep, all others accounts shall receive a permanent closure."

This can be found here: https://forum.nostalrius.org/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=8

The part pertaining to botting needs no clarification.

An example of what is clearly forbidden:

Playing two characters on one computer, in one zone, and having one character on follow while you play the other. This includes world activity, BGs, dungeons, and raids.

However it is unclear on some things:

Can I play my Mage and do Battlegrounds, then between queues tab to my Shaman and do quests?

Can I bring my two characters together in a major city and make food, water, do enchants, create portals, etc for the other character?

Say I am playing my Mage and Shaman at the same time, one is sitting in a city by the auction house while I do quests with my friend on the other. I decide to craft some stuff to sell with my Mage in the main city, so I put my friend on follow with my Shaman while I craft some items/post them with Mage. Is this forbidden?

It would be great if someone with authority could comment and clarify this for me. It would be nice to know now rather than find out by getting banned.

Thanks

There's a very clear line seperating multiboxing and simultaneously follow leveling 2 characters from /following an alt. This line obviously isn't clear to the players or the GMs, since there are CONSTANT ban appeals on the matter.

As stated in the TOU, it's not allowed to multibox to level 2 characters simultaneously. I.e the characters are not allowed to be around the same level and partied up so they both receive xp and quest completion. However, if the other character is much higher or lower level, it wouldn't receive xp or quest completion and it wouldn't be leveled up simultaneously. Still... both cases = instaban, even if it's completely different from what's unambiguously stated in the TOU.

Indeed. Thats exactly why I made this post. I have just started a new character with a friend on another account. After reading the TOU and seeing all the related ban appeals, I am more unsure than anything else.

It would be great to get some to get clarification on the TOU and it would be certainly nice if all the in game GMs were on the same page here.

You can find more info here:

It was moved from the announcements section when it was getting a lot of attention, and is now hidden away under "off-topic".
