Ragnaros was not tauntable, the mechanic was based off of a tank being in range. If a tank died on Ragnaros you assuredly lost 1-3 dps because of the transition between the melee backing off and the offtank running in. I'll actually start looking for old school videos to see if we can't find out how it really worked.

As for the comments about the game being easier now because the strategies are known; that's inevitable but also a concern for some of us who enjoy tough end game content. Scriptcraft wasn't even remotely close to perfect, but the scaled values in BWL made it tough and fun. I'm all for them continuing to increase the difficulty of raid mobs so we can extend the longevity of the server and give people an experience similar to how challenging retail was when we were all shit.

So many of the videos on youtube are such bullshit "vanilla" fights.

Here's a true original https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Br1hXGXJ7Tg

Not one single taunt.

I actually remembered looking at that same video to see if ragnaros was tauntable or not and thought it was extremely weird that not a single melee ever received a knockback.

There's a couple of knockbacks but they look fireball related from the melee PoV. The only knockbacks I saw were when the tanks started getting doodoo'd on at the last 3-4%.

Storfan wrote:As someone else already pointed out. Vanilla content was hard because people in general had no clue what they were doing, knew nothing about BiS gearing for their class nor the optimal specs. Regarding tank threat, tanks would be using all mannor of shitty tank weapons like Quel'Serrar, Spineshatter etc not knowing just how much TPS they could gain by using a very fast dagger such as Finkles skinner,, Scarlet kris, Alcors. People of most classes raiding D1 set instead of BiS pieces, warriors raiding as arms. The list goes on.

TLDR: The great majority knew nothing about the game and how to play it. The few that actually had a clue would be the ones that killed Cthun and that progressed thru Naxx, which wasnt a whole lot.

Quite hyperbolic, I fear. We knew very well how threat and aggro - both damage and heal versions - worked way before Burning Crusade came along. Good gear / BiS as a concept was also well known. It's not like only 13-year old kids played WoW back in the day. Retail forums had large threads explaining and theorycrafting all aspects of the game that I vividly remember reading before AQ war effort ever started. Certainly there were many bad players and many bad guilds but my recollection is that it was more down to lack of time and poor organization than any sort of widespread lack of knowledge or skill. Certainly lack of knowledge played a big part in 2004 and to some extent in 2005 but not really after that.

The one at 6:10 right? That looks like a shaman running into the melee group for whatever reason and getting the mana user targeted knockback.
