Donations for a cause. (not asking for in-game rewards)

Along with many other people on here, I'd be interested in donating for the pure "reward" of server longevity and support. I'd like to help support the server to continue into the future. For that to happen, you'll likely need more employees - who you could pay to help with money from donations.

However, I'd like to know how much money keeps the server alive on a monthly basis, so I could appropriately understand how much I really want to donate.

Make this information public and provide a simple ability to donate in any currency - noting that no in-game rewards will be given. Forum tags wouldn't hurt - maybe a donator-only forum for people serious about keeping the server alive?

Just a thought! Let me know what you think, Nostalrius admins?

As much as I'd be on board for this, this is the kind of stuff that would give Blizzard grounds for a lawsuit of great amounts (there was one case in which the person behind a private server had judgment passed against them to pay 88 mil in damages to Blizzard).

Perhaps there's away of re-wording the donations to keep them off the radar? Maybe if there was a paypal account we could donate to through a different email that is not tied to the email you use to play on Nostalrius, that way it would be very difficult to prove that all the mysterious money coming into the paypal account was truly "donations" and not anonymous gifts for a completely unrelated matter :P

Good point. Here's an alternative:

What if Nostalrius sold someone's music or something, and used profits to benefit the server? Then it covers the fact that the money is for selling someone's songs/art/writing rather than the server.

Well, Koncept, seems like me and you are the only ones interested in this, so keep me updated on if something like this takes place, but until then, I guess we'll just enjoy the server and hope it doesn't go away :P

i never understood why private server don't handle donations like Icefrog did in DOTA Allstars days.

Icefrog sold T-Shirts, coffee cups, etc.. with the DOTA logo (not the Warcraft 3 one!) for support of his work.
The one true king is comming for them all!

Thing is, he was not doing anything illegal when he created Dota. He didn't go against the ToS like private servers do.

Yes I want to donate as well

Give us a way to send donations

I want to share in the costs of this great initiative. I want to express my appreciation through some little financial support

Oh God how much money have I thrown at half-baken mmorpg experiences... Nostalrius deserves it.
