Addressing server overload

With the population continuing to grow it might be smart to have separate US and EU servers. The large population is great, but its a pain to quest and you can't see mobs more than 12 yards in front of you.

I'm not sure if its possible, but you could host a US server in NA, giving NA players better pings, and convert the current server into an EU server. Offer players free transfers. Depending on how big this gets you could implement log in queues and more realms as needed.

My 2 cents

I would dislike to lose all the players based outside of the EU - they populate the world at night, when we Europeans sleep and it makes for a more international feeling - like in the early days of WoW when Europeans would purchase the US version at retail launch to play there from the start.

The admins are currently seeking some donations to expand the existing server hardware in order to battle the lag problems - so maybe chip in a few bucks - viewtopic.php?f=2&t=3903

Any private server hosted in the U.S. will be sued out of existence by Blizzard. But we're reaching the tipping point of a second server, IMO.

Private servers hosted in North America are at great risk of being taken down by Blizzard because of legal issues. It's one of the reasons nearly all private servers are hosted outside North America, like in Europe: to circumvent litigation.
