Document Undocumented Changes

by DeeMarie » Mon Jun 08, 2015 11:27 am

It's fantastic that the devs are fixing and implementing at a speedy rate, but could we get some of the more fundamental changes documented in the Announcements forum please?

For example, by word of mouth I learned the Dire Maul books had been given their updated stats. If someone isn't guilded, or is still selling them cheap thinking they aren't worth much, this comes as a fundamental change.

Nostalrius is impressive but lack of communication is becoming an issue.

So you're basically suggesting a thread for quick fixes? I only say a thread because it will get redundant if there's a separate thread for changes that aren't part of a patch.

this would be perfect, as We proved there should be Elemental fire transmute it was acknowledged and 'added?'
and still everytime I check BRD there's no recipe. so yeah. I'd rather see all the changes not just the major one's.

Yeah could be something like a running, closed thread that they update with fixes that affect gameplay. At the end they could compile them and add them to patchnotes.

The reason I suggest this is because it's not the first time they've 'tweaked' something without actually letting people know. Another example, reducing the rate which DM dusty tomes spawned. I wasted 35 resets looking for the West side which appears to have been removed entirely (not Blizzlike). Nos, of course, doesn't owe us anything, but leaving the playerbase in the dark isn't necessarily a good idea. I'm lucky in that I have a communicative guild, not everyone has that luxury.

Although I agree with you in principle, I don't think the example you've given is a valid one for communication necessary via a special thread/announcement.

Reason: the DM book trinket stats were a bug and were thus fixed. Even people with the most basic of knowledge of WoW know what the stats should have been and everyone also knew this was getting fixed sooner or later. I doubt anyone lost money on selling books for pennies, believing they are worthless.

As long as people delete their WDB folder on a regular basis they will see the changes quickly enough without external prompting.

Bug fixes pertaining to PvP and raid mechanics ought to be announced as hotfixes, as these affect a high number of people in real time. Moreover, these are often changes that cannot be easily spotted unless told what to look for.

In the end it boils down to this - Nostalrius probably can't spare the manpower to make a new hotfix post about every little thing they fix on a daily basis. Therefore you can have either:
1. Having them fix stuff asap and then report them all in a consolidated patch once every few weeks (what they are doing now).
2. Make fixes for stuff and only apply them in bulk as a big patch once every few weeks with patch notes.

The latter is slightly better for communication but means people will have to wait longer for trivial bug fixes. Personally I prefer the existing method.
