Opening of new servers.

by Insignia » Fri May 29, 2015 10:00 pm

Why in the world hasn't even a 2nd server has been opened yet? and perhaps a 3rd. It's getting really bad in terms of random delays and rollbacks. Even in terms of game design, one server shouldn't hold more than 3-4k players, more than that and the economy inflates and professions and gold-making becomes a joke, where mats and epics are over 50% cheaper than it was on any retail server.

Just script a simple feature that lets people transfer with all their belongings to another server for a limited time.
Then just connect the servers with the cross-realm BattleGround system that is already in the client, shouldn't be hard to find and reverse-engineer to figure the opcodes and packets if the developers are competent.

Why are you so eager to hoard the whole playerbase on a single server.

Edit: typos

Need to keep these discussions to one thread, otherwise people miss crucial information from the staff. A flood of "pls create 2nd server" and "will you guys open a 2nd server" threads only creates confusion.

Sadly his statements contradicts themselves.

The only pro is how alive the world will feel, the cons is quick groups that benefits towards far quicker progression than default blizzlike, same with big guilds. Plenty of raiding happens equally regardless of whether it's on a single server or two. Large market and heavily farmed zones destroys the blizzlike economy, inflating it to oblivion, where epics, mats, consumables, and enchantments costs over 50% cheaper than it would cost on any retail server during vanilla.

In terms of pvp servers, the biggest and most successful guilds on retail were all on PvP servers, those crying and begging for a PvE realm is a sad minority who lacks critical game knowledge and logic.

Literally 1 pro against the mountain that is the stack of cons. It's illogical, incompetent, unethical, and non-blizzlike to hoard everything on a single server above 4k.

As Viper already mentioned
As a reminder, don't forget that behind a private server project, there are humans. These people try their best to make their project go fine and to reach the goals they fixed themselves in the beginning of their work.

We are all working as hard as we can to make this server as enjoyable for as many people as possible, but there will always be people who are not satisfied with the way things are or think we should be doing something different with our project. We're always open to suggestions, but the core project will remain the same.
Is pure damage control in an attempt to calm those with obvious worries, who actually believes what the staff has to say and that they know what they're doing. Which they obviously do not with these decisions and statements.

The server quality will only decrease to the point where these poor decision-makings could be its' own downfall. And if they don't even follow Blizzard's grand game design of about 4k on each server, the value of blizzlike and confidence becomes non-existant.

Sure buddy! Let's open a 2nd server!

I assume you're going to take care of the costs for buying or leasing the hardware and the costs of bandwidth? And you have a bunch of reliable friends with you and you're all volunteering to be GMs on that second server?

Thanks a lot man for doing this!

Ha!

At the pace of current population growth, there would be 15k+ people on one server by the time AQ is released.

Wait, you actually believe you have to buy entire new hardware/server machine to open a 2nd core server?
It's not the server machine itself that is stressed by the load, unless they got terrible hardware.
And if you're ignorant about private server cores please don't even bother.

What is causing the delay spikes and rollbacks is the massive amount of load on the core itself, and even with halved visibility distance it's still incredibly bad. Considering they have good hardware and a good host, there's no problems opening new servers. Distributing the load so it's not concentrated on a single process, that has its' own limits that comes back to core optimization.

And so far a majority of the Game masters on this server seem pretty much clueless, and it's not hard at all to find ticket GMs, the qualification required for it is minimum and there's tons of people who has interest in being apart of a private server staff, especially a popular one.

On the subject of this staff, transparency in this team is literally non-existant, as they admitted in an interview with JungleCove.net
Sadly, we take privacy concerns very seriously, so don't expect us to give any personal information about us. We will maybe create a topic later on the forum for the people inside the staff who want to talk a bit about themselves, but right now, people want to be in peace in our secret place. Please don't take it the wrong way, that is the only solution we found so far to protect our staff members from possible harassment.

As if the confidence in the server and its' team wasn't shrinking rapidly enough by default.

I vouch for a new server! In before 10-20k people and 1-10 minutes of delays.
