Banning People for Behavior

by jeffkohut » Sun Sep 06, 2015 5:33 pm

I have sent a few GM tickets in for people's behavior. I even took a screenshot and sent it in. Each time I found out I got nowhere. I find on the horde side in Barrens chat even though people are trolling, you still hear talk from people using the terms "faggot" "nigger" and inappropriate comments about "rape".

I was told that as of this moment its not an offense. I don't understand why that is, because in most countries calling someone a "faggot" or "nigger" would be a criminal offense.

I would like to see most people banned for such behavior in order to increase respect amongst the community and see less of this filth be present. Yes, I have spam filters, however, that isn't the solution. Spam filters are for people who using foul language, not for racial or sexual orientation slurs.

Racial slurrs and other garbage is not an criminal offense anywhere (except maybe in some backwards country with some blasphemy laws or you offend queen, etc).

This type of behaviour should be handled by chat moderators that simply mute people, if they spam too much.

"Freedom of speech" and other stuff aren't exactly true, in most developed nations if you are causing a disturbance (to include offensive language) you can get fined and even arrested for it. The words themselves aren't illegal but the effect they may have fall under other regulations.

Unfortunately "children of the internet" don't seem to understand this.

Acting condescending as always I see.

Some reading material: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hate_speech
So US is not a developed nation, if groups like Westboro Baptist Church have no problem spreading their beliefs ... OK :)

Disturbance is relative, having a loud and crazy party is "freedom of speech" but don't act surprised when police show up and give you a warning, then a fine if you don't listen.

The Westboro Baptist Church is good with loopholes, often in their protests they are at a decent distance and are usually just standing there with signs, distracting and offensive, but not really a disturbance if you don't look at them.

If US was a developed nation, it would be illegal to teach evolutionism in public schools.
But as most in Europe already knows. USA is about to become a third world country.

Soon we have to send you cloth and food so you don't freeze or starve to death. ;)

If you read the Terms of Use, you'd know behavior such as racism isn't permitted on this server and can lead to a sanction against a player. However, just straight up banning someone for uttering a racial slur, even if it's not directly aimed at someone and is simple trolling, is unrealistic. Players receive several warnings first before any action is taken against their account. Only if they continually break the terms do they start to get temporary interruptions on their account.

If everyone was immediately banned for uttering an offensive word or phrase, everyone would be reporting everyone on the server they didn't like or thought they could get banned and the ticket queues would be full of nothing but "So and so called me a [insert slur here]" or "So and so said [insert racist sentiment here]" and they'd never be able to help with important issues.

Yup, plus racism is not simply throwing those words out there, but vicimizing specific people based on their race/sex/etc (which nobody know unless you tell them).

Pointless debate either way, as this is a game where RL rules don't apply (plus it's kinda offtopic). Historically there have been some pretty hilarious things happening here, like whole Ogtrucker world chat thing, so I'd be thankful that world chat is working at all. My advice - expand your ignore list.

I sincerely hope that things were mixed up right there.
