It would help with the hardware lag, might stop people requesting a second server, and it would only really be in effect during EU peak times. And possibly only during weekends.
There's so many people here that get ridiculously defensive whenever anybody questions Nost's claims to be '100% blizzlike' (or rather, how the fanboys say it is), so shouldn't you guys be demanding this cap to be in place? Wouldn't that make the server more 'blizzlike'? Or do you prefer the 'non-blizzlike' population which would just mean you're a hypocrite?
having over 40 realms that support a cap of 4k players was blizzlike back in 2005.
this is not blizzlike, this is an emulation.
the vanilla game itself was designed around that limit of the server capacities at the time. (node respawns, quest respawns, mob respawns) changing these would be changing the actuality of "blizzlike" in itself.
1x rate of a private server is in reference to the pace of the emulation of WoW.
changing these rates of respawns/nodes/quests to account for a high population means changing the 1x rate to more than that.
let's face it. this isn't a true 1x server anymore. sure, the reputation and gold gains are the same. but why do the mobs respawn faster? why are certain elite quests changed to 5min spawns instead of the intentional 30mins? oh right, to account for something the game was never meant to handle back in 2005. population.
cross realm battlegrounds were introduced in patch 1.12.0 to bring servers together in a pvp aspect to increase the scene of pvp players. more battlegrounds, more challenges without changing the server's open world experience.
pick and choose what you want, but keep in mind that changing the entirety of the WoW emulation on this server means changing the things mentioned in your ToS and server description.
opening a second realm and treating them as one is more work for the staff, yes, but no other private server in history could pull it off to have mirrored realms like it was in retail vanilla wow. that is an experience itself.
that is what we play private servers for, that chance for a nostalgic experience. not a distorted one like retail wow.
2 vanilla private server realms keeping within the limits of a 1x experience with cross battleground support from patch 1.12.0.
this would be a milestone in private server history itself.
not jamming 30+ people into 1 cab and calling it a legit blizzlike experience.
