Just about anything in life can be offensive to anyone, and some things may be funny to some people while may offend others. For example, I could be fucking assblasted that you implied that all people with autism are cunts or that you are superior to "stupid people". Whoops, used "cunts" in a negative fashion, and that promotes the patriarchal culture where women are more wicked than men, should've used a gender neutral word there.
If Timmy wants to wear the tag "NAGA STOLE MY BIKE" you think I'm gonna chimp out? I'm just not going to do business with him, or invite him to my group. If anything it should make it easier for you and others who are offended by words flashing across your screen to avoid any deeper interactions with these types of people. It's an easy litmus test that'd be taken away from you if Timmy was forced to join a guild called maybe, "The Crusaders". Oh wait, that's offensive to muslims. Maybe he's in Massivus Backhandeth, oh wait, offensive to survivors of spousal abuse. Ridin Dirty? No, that promotes the idea that all black men are thugs and are carrying. Dreamstate? Nah, you could offend those that know someone in a coma. Blacklisted? Why can't they be WHITELISTED? Why is black a negative adjective? Or hey, maybe he's in "Stonewall Champions", the openly LGBTTQQIAAP guild. Oh shit, that's offensive to just about any Christian/Muslim.
For what it's worth, Sapped Girls Can't Say No doesn't "promote rape". I doubt anyone is gonna log off Nostalrius, hit up the bar and while they're deciding what order of shitty ass vodka they'll have look over at the person across the bar and say "Should I rape that person tonight? Eh, well I did see Sapped Girls Can't Say No on an emulated private wow server. I'll go for it".
Rapists are rapists, thugs are thugs, and thin skinned people will never get my respect in the real world. Censorship won't change that.
I was just fucking around with my previous post.
The rape culture thing is a bit more complicated though. "Sapped Girls Can't Say No" isn't like the guild name "Ridin Dirty". It's more like aunt jemima or back when it was acceptable to have white actors in black face. Rape culture is about people not taking rape seriously or worse yet, even thinking it's normal to drug a girl and rape her. It's about a fucked up attitude or perception that is quite pervasive in our society, just like racism used to be (and in many areas still is, don't get me wrong, I'm not saying that's a solved problem by any means).
I don't care if any action is taken against the guild or not, but I do think it is important that people call it out. Hell, I used to have an incredibly negative perception of homosexuality and even people of a certain race. I didn't even realize it, that's just how I was raised. People pointing out that shit I was saying was pretty homophobic or racist had a huge impact on me and changed my perceptions on a lot of things.
I think it's a great thing that someone points out something like this and people can have a conversation about it. If anyone thinks it's acceptable to tell the OP to stfu or not even post something like this, then the exact same argument can be made about them. Ya, the guild name is offensive and promotes rape culture. If you can't handle that fact, then what are you doing on the internet? I think you might be a bit too sensitive.
So ya, I agree with you in principle but it's not as simple as
