It's a game and I don't want to have too much diversity.
I like forced diversity.
In Red Orchestra or Insurgency - relatively indie games - you have one leader, couple antitank guys, two snipers, and 3 SMGs people. The other 20 team mates are riflemen with their primary and not even a a secondary. Rifle, one nade and that's it.
In Battlefield 3 everybody and their mom can be sniper.
There you COULD have your diversity but everybody gravitates towards one thing.
Therefore I prefer the first option where developers force you in one direction.
In WoW you would have the same cookiecutter build in raids, people are done with raids for the evening and go for the other cookie cutter build.
It's an imaginary diversity/freedom because you will always go in the way of least resistance or get kicked off the group if you try going hemo in a raid.
I'm glad to sacrifice diversity for a better quality game.
An afterthought from today: I don't want to be a one man army that's prepared for everything immediately.
The approach in D2 was even more puristic. There you only had ONE built and to be effective you had to stack synergies in this built. Too bad if the mobs were lighting IMMUNE if you were trap assassine who only worked with lighthing traps. Get yourself a proper group or run around them towards other mobs.
And you know what? I LIKED it. You could not be the one guy, who does everything on his own.
