It's a fact, I would not have said it if it wasn't. Also this would not be the most populated private server if most people liked PvE. Secondly, statistically speaking most private servers are PvP which only further indicates that that is what the general public wants. Finally, every PvE server I've seen is vastly less populated than most of the mediocre PvP servers.

Facts are not based on conjecture. Just a FYI.

Well done! You are correct, a conjecture is merely an opinion or theory. I was not giving you my opinion, although in most cases mine are usually a 110% fact, but was citing well known information that is easily available for research by anyone with the means.

Translation: "I have no clue what I'm talking about, I'm making this up, and I'm putting this line here as a last ditch effort hoping you won't call me on my bullshit".

People who know what they're talking about cite sources, not "well known information".

Is it a fact that most private vanilla servers are PvP? Yes.
Is it a fact that the devs say "We think most private server players want PvP"? Yes.
Is it a fact that devs can be wrong? Yes.

Facts are fun.

I feel that PVP status should stay. It greatly strengthens World-PVP (the best kind), and makes the whole Alliance vs. Horde dynamic much more intense. I like the intensity of knowing that I'm not always safe, and my enemies are out there, and could attack me at any moment. It feels more... you know, massively multiplayer.

Any good MMO shouldn't be afraid to put you in challenging and dangerous situations. It's overcoming these challenges that builds a real sense of achievement and makes the game great.

Exactly. There is no world pvp on a PVE realm. Leveling, while faster, is also more boring. It's the same issue with MMO's that use instances for everything - you don't feel like playing a Massively Multiplayer game when you can hardly ever see other players or interact with them. As annoying it is to get murdered or corpse camped, at least it keeps things exciting.

As for PVE always being part of MMO's, well, you guys don't know your history. Ultima Online, the first real MMO, was wholly PvP and when, after years of whining, they split the realms into PvP and PvE (though you could freely switch between the two), it led to a fairly swift decline of the game: PvE side was utterly overcrowded and with nothing to do, whereas PvP side was quite empty aside from the big battleground towns. And PvP in UO was far more punishing than in WoW because if you died, the other guy could loot all your items and gold.

Let's say Nost staff made it so you had to flag for PvP here. Why wouldn't everyone who wanted PvP flag themselves to take part in WPVP?

It's a discussion, dude. Just relax. Nobody tells you to stop when you post your autistic ideas.

And yes, you have "autism" too... anyone posting on this board has "autism", as you put it.

a useless discussion going nowhere. this server will never be pve, and neither will any popular server. the carebears are the minority.

If you don't like PVP sit in the city or stop playing on this server. PvE servers are everything that is wrong with MMO gaming.

That's....exactly how PvE servers work, and that is everything that is wrong with them. Flag yourself for pvp, which is immediate, gank whoever is near you, then unflag yourself so by the time they run back to their corpse, rez, maybe get backup (if you're a higher level than them) and they can't touch you because you are in the zone of immunity. It's absolute BS that even exists in retail and I'm glad it does not exist on Nostalrius.

Seriously I don't understand why you are pushing this issue so much. Nostalrius is a pvp server, end of discussion. This is not a valid suggestion. You are single-handedly trying to complicate an entire project because you don't like its most fundamental aspect. This is as bad as people suggesting increased experience for leveling. Go somewhere else.

I'm finding that I actually don't mind the WPVP aspect. Which is great for me, because whether this change were made or not, it doesn't affect me too much as I'm having fun either way.

In any case, the beauty of the internet is that we can discuss all kinds of things, and if we don't care for the discussion, we can just avoid it. Or we can torture ourselves and get all up-tight and angry and tell others to stop making those posts... instead of just ignoring them. Personally, I have no problem discussing things for which I'm not in favor. It helps me see things from a different perspective. And if it's a topic I don't care to discuss, I skip that thread.

It's a very valid suggestion, by the way. Whether it were a full PVE server (which is NOT what I'd ask for), or somewhere in between how PVE and PVP servers worked. For example, let's say when you flagged PvP, it wasn't instant. What if it took 5+ minutes to kick in. And flagging PVE took 60 minutes to kick in. Let's say you were only allowed X amount of PvE hours in a 24-hour period. This is a PVP server, and if any rules like this were implemented, I for one would like them to lean well toward keeping WPVP as fun and commonplace as possible. But at the same time, if someone wants to keep it PVE for themselves without fear of getting ganked while minding their own business, I'd like to see some options for them. (You guys need to start thinking outside of the box, btw. Soooooo many people on this forum lack critical-thinking/problem-solving skills.)

That really shouldn't be a problem since so many people on this forum are balls-to-the-wall sure that PVP'ers make up the VAST majority of players on this server, right? What is the ratio, 100:1 in favor of PVP? The couple hundred players that constitute the right side of that number shouldn't be an issue, should it?

LOL! Are you sure you know how to translate English? You haven't called me out on anything, "well-known" means its common knowledge, just because you're not aware of it doesn't make it untrue. Are you trying to differentiate the word "sources" from "well-known information"? Well-known information comes from a source, so if I'm citing the information I am citing the source, you're not making any sense, sorry.

Is it a fact that most private vanilla servers are PvP? Yes. (OK.. been established)
Is it a fact that the devs say "We think most private server players want PvP"? Yes. (Well, that can also be a theory cause they're telling you what they think, not what they know.
Is it a fact that devs can be wrong? Yes. (Yes, thats the weakness of flesh)

But I'm basing this off raw numbers not someones opinion. I'm not telling you whats better just what is more popular.
