If you kill a low lvl enemy faction NPC that is a civilian,while you are alone, in group or raid. You lose 2% of your rank. The penalty is shared amongst group members. If the NPC is green+ lvl for you, you don't get a dhk. 2% is a lot of effort, and the higher your rank is, the worse.

@Rocmistro: They can have a dire affect on your ranking, costing you an entire rank in some cases, especially when you're talking about grinding a million honor in a week just to maintain standing.

In patch 2.0 they were removed with the PvP system revamp, I recommend those servers for those not wanting them to accrue. Vanilla's system required some thought when attacking in the world. This prevented lots of other issues already mentioned, which today you will find in retail with town/NPC camping. Those grinding to rank 14 rarely, if ever, partied with others because you cannot predict what idiots will do. If you don't care, then go gank entire towns of lowbies, because it sounds like some here want to play Vanilla bullies with none of the consequences.

Thanks. Yeah I knew it had an affect on PVP ranking, I just wasn't sure exactly how it was calculated mathematically. Once you burned off your penalty, for example, were you ok? Or did you get a 2% reduction in honor forevermore, going forward, (to use your example).

When I was leveling my Rogue, back in vanilla, I happened to, one day, go on a gank fest of horde questgivers, just for shits and giggles. I don't remember how many I got. Probably 30-50 DHK's. I had no idea what it meant or what the reprecussions were. Once I realized I had effectively pushed myself out of competitive PVP, I just decided to make that toon my DHK ganker Then TBC came and cleared it all and I had a good time.

But I never knew how it exactly mechanically affected things and once it got wiped, I never bothered to find out.

Oh great! There are also NPCs that are not flagged as civilians but give you dishonorable anyway!

Bumping this as I'm still concerned. Tried to make a world PvP raid and at least 3 people denied to come cause of dishonorable kills. One guy even ragequitted and hearthstoned when a dhk was gained.

Literally noone wants to raid towns or cities or anything. We are supposed to be afraid of the strong resistance that await in ironforge and storm wind not its civilians which we will accidentally kill and be called scum of the earth by thrall which will punish us by lowering our rank.

When I suggested a system where you get negative honor for gray ganking, the general answer from the PvP crowd was "This is vanilla PvP, deal with it!"

Now you want the only thing left to protect lowbies removed as well? Time for me to say: "This is vanilla PvP, deal with it!"

Bumping this. I've been in WorldDefense since I started and rarely see anything come up. Remove 'em, and we might see some fun World PvP again.
