Rework miss chance in PvP

The chance to miss vs. targets significantly higher level than you is excessive and should be tuned down. When a player 10 levels above you attacks you, it is all but impossible to land even a single spell. There are times where I'll deplete my entire mana pool without landing a spell on someone.

Instead of having this miss chance be 90%+, it would be better to tune it so that the miss chance is capped like it is vs. a raid boss. That way, a player of much higher level who attacks you still has an enormous advantage, but at least now you have a shot at outplaying him.

So to be clear, what I'm suggesting is:

  • Miss chance against enemy targets of similar level stays the same.
  • When there is a large level difference between two players, cap the miss chance for spells and physical effects at 17% so that the high level player is effectively a raid boss.

This is a change that would go a long way towards making world PvP more challenging & enjoyable.

A couple of points.

(1) You're talking about changing fundamental game mechanics on a "blizzlike" vanilla realm.

(2) Raid bosses don't simply have a capped miss chance. The reason players need the quantity of hit they do on raid bosses is due to the difference in level between the player and the mob they're hitting, and the fact all raid bosses are the same level. Simply put, it already works that way.

I get that it's toying with mechanics of the game, but I don't think that immediately makes it a bad thing. Sure, this is a "true vanilla" server, but if that were taken literally, this forum would have no purpose. I want to see the game stay true to vanilla like most people here, but I'm having a hard time seeing how this would change the vanilla experience. If anything, it would make world PvP more enjoyable for people leveling and it would have next to zero effect on people at max level. Like many people here, I was drawn to this server because of world PvP, and more balanced & dynamic world PvP is always a good thing.

When I wrote "like a raid boss", I meant that as a reasonable metric for a target that is difficult, but not impossible to hit.
