Account Security Concerns and some.

Me and a friend were talking and it occured to us that with the rising population on this server, how well are our accounts protected? Why isn't there a better way to change passwords? Account control panels??
Also if accounts are compromised what does Nostalrius have in place to be able to restore the account?
Sorry if more info is posted on this that me and my friend have overlooked.

Thanks.

Practically the only method of losing your account is to share it with someone else. Bruteforce hacking is very inefficient and we have protection against it. 99.999% of the time when someone says "I WAS HACKED!" what they mean is that they had shared their account information with someone else who then proceeded to commit nefarious acts. Running an up-to-date virus scanner will catch any keyloggers, though using common sense when it comes to downloading stuff off the Internet is the best protection.

Nostalrius does not allow account sharing and you should not do it for any purpose.

About this, I would suggest to download Keyscrambler if you want/need more protection against keyloggers.
I use it since always (with an additional antivirus obviously) and so far I have never had problems.

Hi,

I understand and accept that the player is totally responsible for his password security and should get protected against any virus. But I do think the server should make some kind of account controls panel, with maybe the possibility of a 2-step authentication and secret questions, etc. For example, how would you recover your account if you lost your password ?

I am really concerned about security on the Internet, even though in 15 years I have never been hacked in any way. Could you please make a step toward the user and offer more security options ?

+1 Dastan.
Sorry I haven't looked at this post in a long time and sorry to dig up old stuff. But I realize that account sharing would be about the only way. But I fear that as this server grows and with the IMMENSE popularity it already has people will be targeted eventually. I just think something needs to be in place just in case, I mean you never know. Id hate to play here for a couple years, have a really nice account with a couple 60s maybe, few purples, etc. Just to lose it all because there is no security (secret question) or some other verified way to claim an account. I mean you guys don't even know my first and last name. Or anything, about all you guys know is my email, I just feel not as safe as I should, not that at the moment I feel particularly unsafe. I'd just like knowing that if in the 0.001% my account is compromised that something can be done about it.
Also, I think this is a legitimate question to ask, IS Nostalrius working on some sort of account control panel?

Thanks guys, I love the server and I love what you guys are doing. Thats the only reason I am even concerned about this.

Don't suggest this shit without it being open source.

Also,

I'm glad I don't know all of these sites or if they even have domains at all. All of them are bullshit for having a "track record", "suggested by", or any banner that shows "Tech Sites" approval. By "bullshit" I mean they're shit sites just hosting shitty freeware solely making revenue off of pop under ads, 10 ads per page, 2 paragraph articles having 10 pages, etc.

tl;dr swamp gas, fool's gold, fairy dust; bullshit

At least a page for password changing/recovery would be nice.
