US players

Hey there i'm a US player new to the server here and loving it so far, I was just wondering if there is any future plan to implement cloud hosting in the US? I ping standard 110-130 on your server which I can deal with for this great experience, but I do worry that once I get into raiding/high level pvp there will be an obvious advantage for European players. I believe servers such as Vanillagaming have successfully used this type of hosting for a while so that players from different parts of the world can have similar experiences.

I'm sure some US players would be willing to donate (obviously for no added benefits in game) so that we could ping better to the server, I definitely would.

Really appreciate everything you guys are doing and it has been a blast playing here so far!

There is one reason why private servers are not hosted in the US, Blizzard.

It's the only country Blizzard actually can take down private servers easily.

U.S. players would love to have a server hosted in North America, but it would be more prone to getting taken down by Blizzard than it if was hosted in, say, Europe like it is presently.

The 2 posters above me have no clue what OP is talking about at all. Would definitely donate for cloud hosting, I ping in from west coast at 170-180. With cloud hosting everyone, (australians/chinese/korean/euro/US) included should be getting about 25-80 latency without risking any potential shut downs.

It is pricey though, so that's probably what the issue is.

not really since blizzard would take down the physical servers in the US that are part of the cloud, thus changing nothing.

Could servers in Mexico be a solution? And: if Feenix has a "cloud", then why are they doing it? I mean if they can do it, Nostalrius should also be able to do it, as Feenix is just as illegal.

Who can answer these questions?

Cheers

Someone posted a while back that servers hosted in Mexico or Canada wouldn't work because the United States has a trade agreement with both countries, so chances are good Blizzard could have them taken down once they go through that country's legal process.

Not sure how accurate that statement is though.

"Quote taken from Vanilla-WoWwiki"
The existence of World of Warcraft private servers is controversial, and it is often debated as to whether or not they are legal, given that the code and databases for them are created by people external to Blizzard.

The bnetd case is sometimes cited as a precedent for World of Warcraft private servers being illegal in the United States. Although bnetd and World of Warcraft private servers are both reverse engineered from game server software, bnetd compatible game client software, such as StarCraft and Diablo II, was sold commercially with unique CD keys. In the bnetd case, the Eighth Circuit ruled that these CD keys were a copy protection device under the Digital Millennium Copyright Act. A fully functional trial version of the World of Warcraft client, in contrast, has always been available to download without charge and without any apparent copy protection device.

Does this Include Cloud over the US?
