Will this make it? I know it was part of a later expansion - is it impossible, or is it too attached to that stuff?

1) It is not Blizzlike
2) It would require changes in the client files

Alone for that two reasons the answer is pretty clear: NO.

I really don't get people who look for outside features in a Vanilla version.

This server has attracted alot of recent retail players due to WoD being complete dogshit. Expect alot of these type of requests so don't be rude :D

Well, I am among those WoD players who got attracted to this server. And hey, how was I rude?

Same. Nostalrius couldn't have launched at a more opportune time in the wake of WoD's massive disappointment and that disastrous 6.1 patch.

Don't see anything wrong with adding it. It doesn't affect gameplay at all, and I like altering my characters in any MMO.

And I pretty much haven't played this game since BC. I did some Wrath and Cata, but not for very long.

This could apply to the new player models, too. I don't see why anyone would be against using updated assets that do not affect core gameplay at all. There's no good reason not to take advantage of good content in that case (unless they are too embedded into the changes they came with).

Maybe some hardcore wow purists will tell me how stupid I am for thinking so.

It's also like Skyrim. The barber function would allow you to very carefully craft the face, hair, hair color, etc of your character... only for the head and face to be covered up by a helmet/hood from level 20 or so onwards.

I think the Skyrim meme image went something like this: Spend hours in character creation creating the perfect face, put face-concealing helmet on 20 minutes into the game and never take it off.

Why go to the effort of creating such a feature when gear is going to make it irrelevant?

There is an option to hide your helmet... but perhaps you already knew that? Most people I see take advantage of that option - maybe you see it differently.

It would affect the feeling of the game. Which is a core part of vanilla. I like to recognize players by their looks (if they don't have their helmets showing).
