Character "transfer" from another server

So I know that one of the things keeping more people from joining Nostalrius is that there are people who have leveled characters on multiple private servers which never really turn out all that awesome. Here we are, sitting on a gold mine of a server, but many people just don't want to level a character all over again. You might not necessarily be able to grant them the same gear that they had on the other server due to different points in the progression timeline being at stake if they are 60, but it would bring several players to the server who have already put in hard work to level character(s) on failed server projects.

This will not happen.

Most servers are with higher XP rates, where Nostalrius is only 1x XP. And e ven if you level on a 1x XP rate server, the levelling on those servers cannot be compared to Nostalrius

Therefore character transfers would be unfair for those (us) who level up the hard way.

If there was an upvote option, I would do my best to upvote this post a bajillion times. While it sucks for the OP to have to level all over again, I'd be mighty pissed if someone from any other server managed to get a max-level character with half-decent gear when coming over to here. That's just a step away from retail's awful buy-a-level-90 bullcrap.

I don't understand how they cannot be compared to Nostalrius, especially considering these:

1) it's far harder on a server where the population is small to non-existent to get into a dungeon than it is on a server like Nostalrius, thereby making the overall experience a lot more cumbersome and difficult.
2) it is the exact same game with the only difference being the amount of content scripted in at any given time.

Yes, I meant to say that if it were an available feature it should only be from other 1x gain servers.

I also do not understand how it is a step away from the buy-a-90. It doesn't have the same prerequisites as the buy-a-90, and it's not as if you're creating a new 60. [I'm not sure when Blizzard implemented the realm-changing feature], but one of the things that is notable about it is that it is a free feature when you want to move from a really low-population realm to a more active environment. It's a feature that has been in place ever since I started playing the game in mid-2008.

Like I said earlier, you probably couldn't perfectly transfer everything that you have on one server to this one due to the scripting progress and all that jazz.

[EDIT: Realm transfers became available in mid-2006, thereby being a service offered in Vanilla.]

From my point of view, this option should not be available and should not be even taken into consideration.
For my is like asking Blizzard to import your character which you created on a private server.

As a scenario:
I make my own vanilla server (easy to create with tutorials on the web) and as GM/admin I level my character to level 60 and dress him up in 10 min. Then export it from database and ask Nostalrius to import it.

This option should be available only between two servers of the same provider (in this case two servers from Nostalrius).

Go to Stranglethorn Vale and tell me levelling on [insert server name here] is harder than Nostalrius.

So they leveled on another private server. Good for them! Now they can efficiently level up here.

NO WAY "transfers" will ever happen... thank goodness.

Transfers between two servers that are run by different teams, while possible in theory, are pretty much impossible in practice.

It's not Blizzlike stfu asdfoisrgwabsbutthurtsdhgar4ho3.

No, in all seriousness, people don't realize how complicated things can be behind the scenes from an engineering perspective. Every private server has their own unique configuration and database structure. All the player sees is how many characters they have, their levels, their gear, and maybe their inventory. Behind that is a giant entangling mess of both customized programming and data that work together to make the server emulation functional. Exporting it from one server that handles all this one way and trying to import it into another server that handles it all in a totally different way is a nightmare. And that's assuming everything is a 1:1 ratio where the database structure is identical in design. If they're not, then that's an even greater nightmare.

tl;dr: Transfers aren't copy/paste.
