In response to the Thread Named : Why TBC shouldn't be a separate server.

Quote of the Op :

Draulius wrote:I am aware that there are plans to create a separate TBC server a long while after all content in Nostalrius Begins has been cleared. But that idea worries me, let me explain why...

By the time the TBC server is created I think people will be bored of Vanilla content. Most people will switch to the TBC server, and the community will split. Not only will it split, but the TBC server will mostly be high level characters due to the transfers, and that makes it discouraging to create a new character on the TBC server - therefore splitting the community further and punishing new players. And by time the TBC server is released, I believe the population will be much lower than what it is now, so a split then may be far more damaging than if it happened today. Transfers to an updated server are not Blizzlike, so these are the problems we face. The only possible solution to this I can think of is if transfers from Begins are always open rather than for a brief time, but I have an even better idea than that...

Basically, I am asking that the Nostalrius staff reconsider how they are going to handle the expansion, and instead upgrade Nostalrius Begins to TBC rather than opening up a whole new server. That also requires less maintenance on the staff team's part and is more Blizzlike. I don't think many people would be upset by this decision, since they have plenty of time to complete Vanilla content, and The Burning Crusade is a great expansion anyway.

>>> Best answer to the OP :

Sethzer wrote:There is a reason why they plan to have the TBC server on the side so people who want to go onwards to TBC can do that and those who want to remain on vanilla for whatever reason they have can do so.

You speak of being concerned about population etc. of TBC server since community might be split. Forcing those who wants to stay on with vanilla or those whom simply dislike TBC will make them leave Nostalrius alltogether and that's nothing but a loss for everyone and will give negative reputation on Nostalrius.

Also you are most likely forgetting people who love TBC but hate vanilla that ain't playing on Nostalrius now. There might be a huge flow of players coming to TBC Nostalrius from other projects once that goes live. Community and population on their future TBC server, that I doubt will come for atleast 2+ years, should be the least of the dev's concern right now.

And what of those who maybe joins this server late? They ding 60 and start gearing from 5man and then being told that vanilla time is over? Or those who are progressing late and have just finished BWL and are clearing in AQ40 but then 60 primetime is over because everyone will be forced to have a new maxlevel?

>>> And the best Idea that came across the Thread IMO :

Jackyy wrote:i like the idea of 2 diffent servers who stop progressing at the final tier raid of their expansion.

BUT

some kind of "chracter copy" would be nice, so u can "copy" your vanila char including gear and PvP ranks (excluding gold) to the TBC server.

so you still have the feeling of "progressing" through both expansions with the same char.

This Idea is for me the Best.

It respects both worlds, keeps the vanilla community up, and only widen it for the BC Fanbase.

In my taste wow ended up after BC.

I would then love to have both, Vanilla and BC.

Lots of improvements on this great expansion especially on pvp.

That way, the choice of everyone is respected. Vanilla purists can enjoy Vanilla, BC purists enjoys BC.

And anyone can even play both versions. With character Copy. Without melting everything.

This idea for me would certainly not destruct the community but only improve it.

END.

I don't know why everyone is freaking out about the transfers concept. I think that would be great... and blizzlike. Which as many of you forget, is the central idea of Nostalrius...

When TBC came out you didn't have to delete your character and start from scratch. Also, plenty of new people would come (and thus have to make new chars) and even people with 60s periodically roll new chars, AND anyone who wants to play the new races will need to roll a new char, etc...

Thats true and all, but it have to be a seperate server. Because a lot of us really think that tbc ruined wow,
and me personally would never play on a tbc server over a vanilla server.

I agree I am just saying, I think the best way would be separate server with char transfers allowed. So if you have a character you spent a lot of time on, you can move it over. I don't necessarily like the "copy" option and it seems like that could possibly be abused.

I agree, I don't think everyone should be forced to carry onward to the expansion. There should be another server made for us that do. However, if anybody thinks that TBC ruined WoW... rofl. Really? That was the expansion where it "all went wrong"? If that's what you think, you seriously need to pry the nostalgia goggles off. I can somewhat understand if somebody said that about Wrath/Cata/MoP, but TBC was just a legitimate improvement of vanilla. There was not much casualization in TBC, it was all still nitty gritty like vanilla was. But anyways, to each his own.

I like the current way that Nostalrius is going about it.
Viper @ FAQ wrote:What's next once all the content will be cleared.
A new TBC server will be opened after some months by the community we depend on. This new realm will be completely independent from Nostalrius Begins, that will continue to be supported. Additionnaly, the Nostalrius players will have the possibility to copy any character to the Burning Crusade realm. Once again, Nostalrius Begins will always stay online, and will always have its own dedicated staff.
