Hunter min. range

Hi,
This is not as much a suggestion as it is a search for an answer.
I am an old school player, from the days of the EU Open beta and I clearly remember the days when hunters had a minimum range on the use of their bows. 5 yards if i am not much mistaking. This is something that was later removed and it was for most hunters, a very welcome change.

Since i noticed that there has already been made som other customized changes, I was wondering whether or not you had considered removing that minimum range of 5 yards on hunters bows, or if you plan on letting that remain unaltered? For me personally, it's a handicap similar to dragging an anclechain, but ofcourse I can only speak for myself.

Got a patch citation on when this was removed?

The minimum range for ranged weapons is 8 yds not 5 yds. 5 yds is the melee maximum.

The dead zone was a well known mechanic of hunters and warriors, to remove it will piss off a lot of people even some hunters who feel it is a basic part of the vanilla hunter experience.

Minimum range was lowered to 5 yds in patch 2.3 and finally removed during Mists of Pandaria.

There is a time and place for hostility, Holmes.

Personally I find it quite cumbersome to defend myself on my hunter, when all I am left with is my melee weapon which is basically more of a crutch than anything really. I've always viewed hunters melee more as a show rather then much of a utility.

But my feelings aside, when the hunter becomes incapable of fighting back when their advantage is quite easily oblitarated by anyone who can get close enuff, even trying just seems obscene.
Hunters may have a melee weapon as of right now, but in effect it's little to no use when put to a test. As such you have to consider hunters primary weapon, and only effective weapon the bow which then again is neutralized by rangecap. In general that makes hunters (imo) handicapped from birth :/

I am playing a hunter despite of the range issue, and i plan to remain on her. But I pray that the ppl behind this initiative will take my idea/suggestion up for consideration.
While some hunters may feel it is messing with the vanilla experience I disagree and I believe that the people whom would get pissed by a change such as this only makes up a very small percentage of the collected playerbase. Ofcourse I can't know for sure, it's just a guess.

Well to me, it kinda makes sense that you should have a minimum range from your opponent to be able to shoot them - you should not, by all means, get close to them, you should constantly be running away from them to use your skills (as there are CCing skills for hunters to keep the enemy at bay and slowly mow them down), they are definitely not meant for close combat. As for PvE, pets do the trick.

Yes, ideally hunters should constantly maintain range - but that is in the ideal world.
We both know WoW isn't the ideal world, and as long as there are ppl even the best will make choices that lands them in close combat. Name me one other class that becomes totally useless when put in a tight/not ideal spot?
Since this is Vanilla we can no longer use Disengage to propel us outwards which would pretty much be the only lifeline to match ones opponent, or atleast give us the chance to even the score somewhat...

Anything that has to maintain range classifies, like casters. Being close makes them vulnerable to CC from melee classes; but which is why ranged classes have CC to stop melee from getting close to them, as well as melee having CC to get close to them, or keep them close. You simply have to rely on not getting touched. Obviously the situation will not always be in your favor; and sadly either class has to deal with whoever gets the upperhand.
