Breaking News window

I've always wondered about the "breaking news" window on the sign in screen. We see it everyday, and if you are like me, you read it and recognize it for original, old messages from Blizz and just forget about it as soon as you are online.

Why does it randomize old Blizz messages? Does Nostalrius have the ability to use that screen?

The Breaking News frame on the login screen is just filled with the contents of one of these web pages (depending on the client):

http://launcher.worldofwarcraft.com/alert
http://status.wow-europe.com/en/alert

Seems like Blizzard is still using the same mechanism for the last 10 years, so this page is still updated and hence also shows up in the Vanilla WoW client. What you're seeing are status messages indended for the current retail WoW.

Yeah, I was gonna say, the Breaking News alerts coincided perfectly with the Breaking News retail WoW shows when Blizzard issues updates.

Kinda eerie. We'll never escape retail.

I believe if nost wanted to use this space for alerts for servers they would have to change the client to not read from "Launcher.worldofwawrcraft.com/alert" but rather their own page. would be a lot of work and hassle for the players & Devs to make an alert relevant for us.
