Do it rain too often/too long?

I feel like half the time, it's raining (or some other weather effect like snow, dust storms, etc.).
It may be coincidence, it may not.
I do like the rain (weather effects). But not at this pace. It's starting to get boring.
Was this how it was in Vanilla? If not, maybe consider reducing the amount of time it rains? Or how often it rains?
To me though, I feel like when it does rain, it rains way too long (instead of raining for 2-3 hours, I feel it should be like 30 minutes).

Weather in WoW is controlled client-side afaik.

No, weather settings are set server side.
Another thing is that weather effects was introduced in patch 1.9 - they should'nt be active at this patch level yet

It's been talked about before. The weather effects are indeed bugged, but I doubt they will get to it any time soon, as they have other stuff to worry about.

I've yet to see a private server fix the weather bug, it seems to stem from the MaNGOS core.
If you want to fix it go here.
viewtopic.php?f=32&t=1100Set it to weatherDensity 0, default I believe is 2.
As for me weatherDensity 3 all day.

This is the same thing as adjusting the slider in the video options menu, no?
If so, putting it on the lowest/off will still give you the sound effects from the weather + the fog (when it weather effects start).

I don't know about sound, but those console commands are most certainly different than the options in the menu.
As for the sound you can reduce it using the ambience volume or edit it out from the sound files, the latter you could get banned for.
As I've said this is common bug among private servers. It has to do with MaNGOS core and the way it determines weather. The reason why it is rarely fix would be because it is either too hard to change without completely removing the weather or that it is viewed as such a minor bug that it isn't worth the time investment to fix.

What bothers me most is the bug where the ambient rain sound is occuring but no rain is falling. Very annoying white noise that doesn't have a source for your mind to attribute to.
