But, lets say one collects all of their Dungeon 1 set. Would it be possible to unlock the NPC that starts the quest line for D2?

I have a suspicion this would require pushing code changes and mixing patch code though :/

The dungeon 2 sets were far behind the current gear when they were released. I wouldn't mind seeing them pushed up to the emerald dragon release to make them somewhat relevant in the game rather than RP material.

They pushed the PVP blue set forward alot and that actually has an impact. Pushing the D2 forward won't have that much of an impact imo.
It's again one of those things Blizzard did, but did too late. I wouldn't mind it coming up in the "1.7" or "1.8"

It isn't Blizzlike so i wouldn't count on it. But then again they release the pvp blue set early.

I know of another server doing this, but patch wise, d2 is not supposed to come out until 1.10.

While I wouldn't mind d2 coming out after ZG (before AQ), I personally know this would not be blizzlike.

We have Naxx patch pvp gear in the game right now, so I'd say we threw out the idea of "100% blizzlike" already.

When Blizzard implemented the D2 questline it was simply too late already. The people who couldn't get better gear than D2 (raiders, high rank PvP or people farming and buying items) wern't really that well suited to get this the D2. You had to farm (gold and reagents + consumables for the 45 min baron run). The 45 min baron run is hard also i remember Lord Valathak being alot harder than any other 5man boss up to that point.
So the people who ended up getting it were bored players with better gear mostly.

Players on Nostalrius progress alot faster even. They know what is BiS preraid (which alot of this D2 isn't), there are PUGs for raids, you can buy from raids, new PvP gear is out,... So lets face it the D2 will just be a money drain for the bored if they release it at its original time. And I think it would be a shame for the devs time and effort to go somewhat to waste.

Moving it forward doesn't eliminate the downsides but it does make the gear more relevant. Also it will be may 2016 before we see AQ40. It could be used to fill in the gap in content a bit.

I won't personally be getting any D2 items but i still wan't to do this 45 min baron run and Lord Vala

I used d2 quest line for my alts, and as for the baron run, I didn't seem to have any trouble with it myself.
