Banning new players for chatting is bad form

Just a note to the GMs and Admins that you have obviously put some code in that bans players of lower levels who attempt to whisper and chat in World or Trade. They try to say something, and get banned. I'm sure the intent is to remove gold seller spam, and toxic PvP chat-grieving, both of which are worthy goals.

However the costs are high:
- It creates a lot of GM work to reverse unnecessary bans (just look at the Account Issues forum)
- It gives a bad impression of Nostalrius to new players, who come on expecting to be able to chat and get auto-banned.

I'd suggest looking at this and deciding whether the cost is worth the benefit.

Sounds like a post for the suggestions forum. Not general discussion.

If they got auto-banned, it's because they were violating the Terms of Use, not for trying to chat. If you really feel the need for chatter in your life, spend 30 minutes leveling & you're fine.

This thread is not about players who get banned for violating the ToU.
It is about players who are getting banned by an automated system that has been put in place, simply for trying to whisper others or say something in World or Trade. Players that did not violate the ToU, but who are new to the server.

What i'm saying is that silencing them is enough, and as a result of this automated permaban there are a lot of false positives that the GMs are spending time reversing. Spend some time reading the Account Issues forum and you will see what I mean by that.

I assume that they have tried to intensify their efforts to stop gold spammers. Probably just need to work out a few kinks.

There is no other reason players would be banned. If the ToU has somehow changed, and players are unintentionally banned, there might be an area where the Nost staff has to communicate their intentions and/or changes.

Please actually do research before posting. I'm making the suggestion because it is actually an issue. There are quite a few ban reversals going on, as a direct result of an automated ban that is banning low level characters for posting things in Trade, World, and whispering. It's probably based on keywords like 'gold' in the whisper, as in both "/w Would you like to buy gold?" and "/w Hey would you accept 10 gold for that item you have on the auction house?" It's the second one that's the problem here.

What follows are examples from only the first current page of the Account Issues forum. These all have the same characteristics. Some of them have already been reversed.

To Moderators: THANK YOU for moving this post into Suggestions! I didn't want to create a second thread to put it there.
