Website feature sugestions

Hey there. So I was just thinking about a couple features it would be nice to do for this project.
In any case, these would be all great additions, as many other features you can think of.
- Wowhead
- Afaik, everyone is using 'db.vanillagaming.org' but there's a couple of problems with that one. For starters I believe it's not being updated anymore, and therefor some info is wrong (I've seen mobs linked to wrong zones). Also almost no one comments there because well, it's not "official" nor do I know if it's even working since that whole website used to be under 'aowow' domain.
- Code: Select all
[item=IDNUMBER]text[/item]
There has never been a vanilla community as big and powerful as Nostalrius, so the players would very likely comment stuff that would make it feel updated, alive and helpful. Who knows, maybe the "Guide" section would even sprout with more tutorials. Plus, having your own 'wowhead' would give you so much more freedom and it's easy to connect all the data from the servers to it too.
Oh yeah, and you could link items in this forum, with some tag like:
- Amory
- I'm actually not sure if 'realmplayers.com' is yours, but I don't think so, and while their website isn't so bad, it's not yours and very often not quickly updated, as it would be if it was in the hands of our staff. Plus once you roll the TBC realms, will they be able to retrieve arena ratings and such? You could even do your own version of 'wowprogress.com'.
The community would surely appreciate this and you have one heck of a community in-game, why not extend it outside of the game too with website features?
- AH API
- As Blizzard has for years now, building an Auction House API is fairly simple, you just need to limit the access times and data to protect against server attacks. This would be so good for players trying to play around with add-on's and/or build an 'wowuction.com' style of website for the community (I guess, you could also do it).
I'd really love to see this up in the air, as I was trying to build my own 'wowuction.com' for AH play. As a graduated and working web developer myself, it wouldn't be so hard but there's no way of doing it without the API. I tried building an add-on that was scanning the AH, retrieving data and sending it to the add-on folder, where a desktop application would connect and scan for changes and upload them to the website, but I cannot access what and how many items were sold, cancelled or expired. And I would have to stay online 24/7 scanning every 30 minutes.
In any case, these would be all great additions, as many other features you can think of.
