World chat

Will there be one? Some might say "not blizzlike" but I don't want to sit in the city all day because of /2 but instead go out and do something while still trade and LFG.
What do you guys say and if "yes, there is one", what do you think about it?

I remember there was a "world chat" (for each faction) during wow vanilla, but it was removed pretty quickly (like one or two days after it was released)

not sure if we should have one or not.

I'm opposed to a world chat. The reason is, I like the chat to reflect the environment I'm in. If I'm in the wild, I don't want to see a whole bunch of random chat. If I'm in a very crowded place, I want the chat to reflect that population.

You could argue that I could just turn the chat off if I'm out in the wild, but I don't like doing that. It just breaks the immersion more for me if I have to modify things like that.

Also, there is to much potential for trash talk and random topics can very easily run rampant on global chat.

I'm neutral about world chat. It's fine as long as you're able to turn it off, but it's also not really needed since the community can create their own channel (or /lfg for example) if they wish. I am against cross-faction world chat though, I found it annoying and jarring on other servers.

I think world chat is fine as long as you can decide yourself if you want to join it or not.

I'm on the same boat as Kahari. I'm against cross-faction world chat. But I don't mind global chat for your faction. It's always optional to join those channels anyways. If you don't like the inevitable global channel chatter, then you can just leave that channel. Otherwise, chat away.

Of course I am talking about faction wide chat, not cross.

You don't really need one put in. There's not much stopping all the players from making their own, which is exactly what they did back then. If you simply typed something such as /join lfg or /join world, you have channels that can be used anywhere in the game. /join lfg was common since Classic did not have a dungeon finder; you had to find people in chat channels or guilds and directly invite each one yourself. So rather than post in every zone hoping to find players, they'd just join a global channel to post in. Players open for groups would see the postings or post LFG themselves. Before the dungeon finder in BC; this was the only effective way to find players for groups. The only alternative was to be in a VERY big guild and use guild chat.

Global chat/trade channels also existed back then, but weren't as commonly used because retail servers actually had so many people that it would cap out or flood up. So players went to the main city(SW/ORG) to read/post listings. You needed it to be broken up by zone because there were simply too many players for a single channel to contain on retail servers for these. In a small private server/community, I no doubt expect such channels to be used.

It really depends on how busy the server will be. If you got only a couple of hundred peeps a world chat would be helpfull. If you got several thousand. Then world chat isnt really needed.
