Nostalrius Begins - Quality wow vanilla realm (1.12)

In the real world people get insurance to protect themselves against health, home, car and other issues. However in order to benefit from the coverage people need to purchase it before incidents occurs.

This is the genesis for this suggestion. I would like to suggest Nostalrius offer basic account and recovery insurance. This insurance protects their account and characters from hackers and only from hackers. This means it will not cover accidental deletion or if you let someone play your character and they deleted it. This insurance is only good for one account and character recovery and expires in a year.

"Hackers" ... so are you saying Nostal isn't secure right now?

How can you prevent people from paying for $40, giving all their items and gold away to another account, and retrieving all of the items again? Profiting off of something like this is to be expected. If you don't keep your account uname and pass secure, that's all on the client. Not the server.

...Unless you are pretty much saying Nostal isn't secure, which all blame and loss falls on the staff.

There's several people reporting that their accounts have been hacked and characters deleted. This is simply one option to let people recover their characters in such an event. Not everyone will do it. But this is an option for those who don't want to lose their hard work.

So you're saying this will only be character deletion recovery. Importing a table's row from an older backup isn't that hard (PHP-wise) or CPU intensive. It should be considerably around $10-$20 per year because people will pick up on their own account security.

We could just diminish this whole thread and do as many other forums with 2FA have: IP-bound accounts.

This suggestion is most likely against all of the Nostalrius staff's intentions.
They do not want a slippery slope of purchasable services.

Also, they shouldn't need to offer insurance. It's like charging people for insurance on a product you know is broken. You should be confident in your product. And while I understand playing the server is free, and all of us (myself included) want to see it stick around. I think charging for services like this is just plain wrong.

It was just a suggestion. I wanted to "design" my suggestion so that everyone could see the proof of concept.

Anyhow, I don't anticipate Nostalrius giving it much consideration which is fine. This is their home. I'm just a guest.
