Nostalrius Begins - Quality wow vanilla realm (1.12)

I remember levelling a pet in vanilla ~15 levels under and every 10ish mobs were a level for the pet. I'm 41 right now with a 28 pet. It takes 10 mobs to get a single bar. On top of this, hunter pets used to get full XP in dungeons (would level very quickly), did SM cath and RFD and the 28 pet was getting ~30 exp a mob, even though I was getting ~100-150.

Seems like pets are only getting a fraction of the hunter's exp numbers.

When you're at a higher level like that compared to your pet, try to kill elites around the level of the pet. That way they get more xp, and it's easier for them to lvl. I don't think it's bugged asfaik.

this does not work. the mobs you're killing have to be green or higher level for you else your pet wont get any xp at all.
however, the pet should get xp in comparison from the pets level to the mobs level and not from my characters level to the mobs level, unless the mob is grey for the hunter as stated above. thats what currently is wrong imo. thats why levelling a level 20 pet to level 21 takes pretty much as long as getting a 50 one to 51 when youre 60. the only factor that makes it level faster on lower levels currently is the fact that it doesnt require as much XP to gain 1 level, the XP gain for the pet per kill is the same tho. thats why its a horrible pain to level pets up. (its like 1h per level even when its low)

This is wrong. As long as the mob is of appropriate level for you pet, the pet will gain experience even if the player character gets nothing. This has been tested extensively and is how it works on Nostalrius currently.

oh well, ok. so you're running the past 1.7.0 version. which is nice for hunters.

"Patch 1.7.0 (13-Sep-2005):

Hunter pets now gain experience based on the level difference between them and their target rather than the difference between the Hunters and their target."
