Server hosted in the United States?

I have some questions for both the devs and the community:

Devs
  • Would you be willing to create another server hosted in the United States?
  • Would you be willing to accept donations to specifically make a server available in the U.S.?

Community
  • Would you use a server hosted in the United States?
  • Would you be willing to make donations to have a server made available in the U.S.?

I love playing on the server but my ping is at minimum over 170ms and I lag semi-frequently.

Your latency could be a multitude of problems other than geographic location of the server. Who is your ISP? Where in the US do you live? (No specific state needed, region at the least.)

What region in North America do you live in? I live on the east coast and my average ping in the game is 130, give or take. Occasionally it'll hit upwards of 150 or so but not very often. I notice a tiny amount of lag from time to time but nothing that makes game play undesirable or outright unplayable.

As for the server question, yeah I'd like to use a North American server but wouldn't the risk be much greater if it was hosted in the United States? I'm no copyright expert but from everything I've read, Blizzard aggressively goes after private servers where the law is on their side. Hosting it outside the U.S. makes it that much tougher for it to get taken down because of litigation reasons.

There is a reason why there are no private servers in the US, it's the only country Blizzard are able to take down the private servers.

It is common to see 100-120 on the east coast and up to 200ms when getting to the west coast. We can never have a server hosted in North America due to Canada, Mexico and, obviously US having a trade agreement and following similar DMCA rules. Don't expect a better latency until there is some way to get information from both hemispheres quicker than 200ms, which is pretty damn quick if you think about it...

This. Don't you think there's be a bunch of NA servers if it was allowed in the US?

Sorry to say but as mentioned previously the probability of a US based server is next to zero.

If lag is a major issue for you, I guess you could try one of the VPN clients like WTFast, Smoothping, Battleping or anything equivalent. It might help you a lot in regards to ping.

My friend plays on an asian server, where if he connects directly he surpasses 2.500 ms, as opposed to ~15-20ms when using WTFast client.

Haven't tried it myself but it could help you out perhaps :) Good luck
