Yes, please!
There are great solutions out there like angos-zero's aowow that take almost no effort to set up. While I could understand that you might want to use something that you've build yourself, please consider using this in the mean time anyways, because it would make our lifes prepairing for launch (and after that) so much easier!

There really should be a database for this server. Web Archive is really uncomfortable to use, plus there would be a sure way to know which items got their stats changed correctly.

I think that's exactly what the staff wants to avoid.

They don't want to get their own researches getting leeched by other servers if they put time and efforts into reverting stats of hundreds of items and looking for trustworthy sources, you know.

Jesus, old item stats isn't some kind of a super sekrit info, they're openly available from an absolutely trustworthy source, which is commonly known to most people at this point. Maybe some items pages for which didnt get recorded by wayback machine for some reason are difficult to dig up, but do those signle examples justify the inconvenience of the entire community? Although on a second thought, with no database for the server you're more likely to end up with substantional amount of people running around in shit gear with no idea where to get actually good items, and that would be a pretty good representation of blizzlike Vanilla WoW.
