Otherwise as others have mentioned I'd roll a paladin and by lvl 40 roll need on everything, because hey... I can just change spec right?

All that said, I don't think what Nevah did here is bad enough to blacklist over, but I would be concerned about it.

According to the op he offered to buy the loot rights before he rolled. How much more clearly can he say "I want this loot"?

Not directed at you directly but the topic. "Reserving items". Talk about not wanting to work for your gear. Kids these days.

I hate reserved items. But I know that it's very common, so I had to ask.

When I played, I only got into groups (as a mage) when i said I promise i wouldn't roll on anything. That's pretty pathetic.

So you got to help kill everything, but couldn't loot anything?

That is absolutely true and one of the reasons I don't think he should get blacklisted. Honestly I'd gladly play with Nevah after hearing this story, but I would be slightly more nervous about him ninjaing than a random other person with no record.

On the person mentioning leader role for dungeons: Leadership is for marking creatures, calling breaks and tempo of the team. It shouldn't be used to decide who gets what loot. That should be a decision the entire group has a say in.
To save time it is useful to have a standard assumption about how loot is devided in dungeons, and honestly, the most fair system in my mind (and most people I've played with) is needers before greeders and current spec/role over off-spec/off-role. If an item doesn't clearly belong to a single role/spec, then it should be equally open for all needers.
Of course people are free to make up their own systems, but if it deviates from the standard system (and I do think what I wrote above is pretty standard) then it needs to be mentioned and discussed before the dungeon starts. And naturally this doesn't apply to people who have a clearly defined alternate system that everyone have agreed to beforehand (such as guild raids and all friend groups).
On the topic of "reserved items": I think it is a douchebag move and I'd try to avoid groups who use this system if at all possible. Of course if it was an equal deal where everyone got to reserve an item I might be okay with it. I will say, that if it has been clearly stated up front that the group uses the system, I'd still be annoyed by it, but I could live with it.

in hindsight i propably should have said that i wanted to roll on the robe at the beginning of the instance just to avoid this drama. i can understand why some may say that i shouldn't have rolled on it as a shadowpriest but i just want to give two reasons why i thought it was reasonable for me to roll on it in this case:

1. the other priest was fresh 60 with mostly green gear and he did get some other useful items (so the run was worth it for him nevertheless). he will most likely do strath a lot more times in the future to get items and complete quests. this means there will be plenty of oportunities for him to get the robe. for me the robe was the only reason i did the instance (i would have passed on the amu i got if someone else would have needed it).

2. if i'm in a group where i'm unsure if someone else will roll on an item i need i just ask him. it only takes 1 minute.

and by the way: it's not like the robe is just sitting in my bank. i have great use for it. otherwise i wouldn't have offered to give the other priest 50 gold for it.

Way to necro a week old post...
The level of whining about bans on the forums is at an all time industrial level.
