OP, you seem to be thinking of retail's tagging system.

In vanilla, mobs tag when damaged, not when aggroed.

The retail tagging started with the launch of WOTLK, as I recall. Does that make the OP a wrath baby?

Oh, and amusingly the vanilla WoW tagging system was a casualization of the EverQuest tagging system where the person or group who got the kill is the one that did the most damage.

I had a mage spam sheep on a quest mob I was killing cuz I had got to it first. Then he went oom and lolz were had by all

I've seen mages sheeping a second mob in fights, or kinda in the opening of a fight. Anyway, so I did attack the sheep and yeah it gave me the tag. I got xp and loot.

I'm gonna test this a few times and see how it works out.

if the mage doesn't damage, you will always be able to tag the mob. He was saying the mage kept spamming sheep on the mob he was fighting which would keep healing the mob slightly while the mob was sheeped. Someone did this to us on hogger and it made it close to us dying as we then got oom. huge dick move
