I just hope they come up with some way distinguish between those who were abusing this for exploitative purposes and relieve the bans for others who were caught in the collateral damage.

It is definitely possible, no doubt the developers and administration have solved more complex issues before this incident.

The Ahn'Qiraj War Effort starting is a bug associated with turning in a specific quest in Silithus that players just recently discovered. The crashes are coming from the event NPCs trying to call items from the database that don't exist yet because we're not in patch 1.9.

Players have taken this opportunity to turn the quest in to force the server to crash in order to abuse the respawning of resource nodes. Players have already received bans and we will continue to ban players who have intentionally abused the system to the detriment of the community.

We've removed the event call from the database, removed the bugged quest that is starting the AQ war effort and removed the NPC that the quest was being turned in to.

Wow... i was just questing in Silithus... guess i dodged the banhammer by just a day or two... phew

EDIT: Btw, there's like 3 bugged quests there... dunno if it's related.

Aurel Goldleaf should be a npc for a turn-in quest in Cenarion Hold but is nowhere to be found
