Question about 1.4 items

So I was reading that items are 1.4 and below and will be changed later?

What exactly does this mean. I didn't play vanilla until actual 1.12 back in the day so I missed a lot.

We're items weaker up until 1.5 patch or something?

Yeah I read those. Just don't really see what item changes were made? Was it stats or something?

All I see is gear was added to Mc and ony loot tables.

just change the date accordingly. Patch 1.4.0 seems to have been released in early May 2005 (the link is late March 2005).
