General questions...

Hello all, I am new here and I have a few questions. But, let me start out by saying I am pretty impressed by Nostalrius. The server/s seems to run great and there is a high population, which makes it a lot of fun. I played WOW from about a month after retail release, up until Cataclysm. Then I took a break and have been meaning to come back for some time. But, playing close to Vanilla WOW is actually pretty awesome, much more fun than I had in Cataclysm.

Anywho...

1. How secure are our characters? I assume there are backups in place here in case of server failures? I'd hate to spend weeks/months building a character only to log in one day and everything is gone.

2. In general, how often (if ever) does Blizzard shut down these private servers? Or do they leave them alone?

3. Is there any sort of timeline for content updates? Does this server plan to offer updates that followed the original WOW content updates? I sort of don't want them too... at least not anytime soon. Will they continue running this version on its own if they do content updates?

4. Is this a pretty faithful representation of the real servers? Is there anything we are missing out on content wise?

1. I would like to think the people who run this server are competent enough to keep backups.

2. Private servers are only shutdown under certain circumstances. Nostalrius is not at risk currently regarding them.

3. viewtopic.php?f=2&t=4#p8 is a rough estimate for content release. They plan to release a TBC server after Naxxramas is cleared but the vanilla server will still be kept up.

Thanks for the response. I assumed that on #1, I just didn't see any sort of formal declaration of how they handle it. This is my first foray into private servers and I was just curious.

Good to know on the vanilla server staying vanilla, I like that!
