(3) Take a look at any number of the vanilla realms that have been around for a decade, you'll find players who have been there since day one.

But really, might wanna go back to the first point.

No one likes doing Molten Core/BWL for weeks/months with no end in sight. Many of the players on here from what I've seen have played across numerous other projects and came here for the quick content release schedule.

Yes, individuals might reside on certain realms since day 1 years later, but you'd be hard pressed to find a single guild that's been there since day 1. I'd like to kill Cthun and Kel Thuzad with my guild, but I can't guarantee every player in my guild will still be playing 2 years down the line (or even myself), and I'm sure many other players from other server clusters feel the same.

Look at P1999 man. It's been emulating classic EQ since 2009, has released one expansion in that 6 years and still regularly gets a population of 1200+. This server is going to take a long, long time to die.

I'm sure the server will be alive 3 years down the line, but none of the original guilds will be playing here.

You never know. In my opinion a good Vanilla server might last longer than the retail game does. People love it, almost with a fanatic passion from what I am gathering.

(I am not trying to insult anyone... I love it too, not sure how far I will take it, but I forsee being here for a good while based on my experience so far).

EDIT: Crap, I just looked up P1999 and wow, there are over 900 people playing right now on their PVE server, 150 on the PVP... that is actually pretty amazing.

God damn i love this kind of stuff. This is basicaly what makes internet forums worth it.
