My guild talks about GM Pottu all of the time. He's kind of stupid, and his actions shouldn't be treated as representative of the rest of the GM team. Pottu can be helpful, but he's more disruptive than helpful most of the time.

It upsets me that the GMs choose to keep the guy, whose clearly a Social Justice Warrior.

Common sense & use of language determin the result.

If the barrens chat should be clear of all rules (like people act now) that would spread across the server.
Again;
Any form of racism, hate speech, pornogrpahic content and the likes of either are not allowed.
Use barrens chat "as the barrens chat" and not as a feclal matter distribution channel.
I know very well that barrens chat always takes it a bit further and GM's are around to draw the line.

Obviously we don't know the details of this dispute, so yes, it is up to the GMs to police this kind of thing.

But I don't know about this "spreading across the server" from what I've seen only the barrens has this "problem."

Yet, again, we see a subjective problem, some people think this kind of speech is ok, otherwise they wouldn't do it. Again, its up to the GMs to choose what stays and what goes, I just hope it's handled fairly.

I've seen many a oversensitive person on the internet nowadays, and these loose rules just get me jittery is all. I like to be able to voice my opinion and have it be challenged if need be. I'm not afraid to re-examine my beliefs.

The only choice anyone here really has is to trust the GM's judgement, or go find another server unfortunately :\

Unless there's an appeals board on the forum I'm not aware of?

Edit:

I don't like passing judgement too quickly on a person, got any more images of pottu? Maybe there should be a thread for all messages people have received from GMs.

Unfortunately "great violation" seems to be a rather loose term, so they can basically mute at their own discretion as long as it isn't for more than 24 hours.

This server is really going to go the way of the dogs if GMs can't seperate their emotions from their jobs.

Blizzard GMs were professional and logical, Nost GMs are emotionally charged and petty.

I've leveled 2 toons from 10-20 in the Barrens and I've never ONCE seen something that crosses the line. If you begin to censor the players that are most likely your most avid supporters then you (Nost) are shooting yourself in the foot.

There is merit to GM's taking action on barrens chat. And probly some misjudgment as well.

But first,
"Barrens chat is like a stupidity centrifuge, distilling the unexpurgated banal thoughts of a thousand morons into a hardened impenetrable lump of smacktardery, spilling endlessly across the bottom of your screen."
That's from the wow wikia. Yes there is a large group of people who enjoy this kinda of chat. It's nice for a chat to have a notorious reputation, it makes the game funny and memorable.

Sorry but I was just leveling yesterday in Barrens and I was seeing conversations about niggers, rape, molestation, penises, homosexuals, etc. I'm not saying I'm offended. I was annoyed because I tried to chat about quests or other things in life that are actually interesting. But really, people need to draw the line some where. Like can't we be mature in a minimal respect. The barrens chat can still be a garbage dump, just expand your conversations to more than just sexual organs.

The Tom Cruise jokes woulda been ok with me. They are like Chuck Norris jokes in the same manner. They get bit redundant, but it kills your boredom when leveling.

And yes, GM's better be making good judgements and not letting their emotions and peeves get to em.

I think you guys will survive not being able to say racist / homophobic / offensive shit in chat channels. You can always say it in your team speaks skypes private forums w/e else. They're trying to build a community of non shit heads. The only problem I have with letting people say whatever they want is you end up with a playerbase of OGtuckers. And that's way worse then a whiny population who complain about being offended about anything.

You, me and everyone else knows very well that it wasn't a misstell. You wrote it on purpose. It came after a torrent of penis "jokes" and if you had not been muted, how much more obscene would you have gotten or how much longer would you have kept it up?

poku wrote:The Tom Cruise jokes woulda been ok with me. They are like Chuck Norris jokes in the same manner. They get bit redundant, but it kills your boredom when leveling.

Which is why no-one got muted for them and I only warned the few players who kept spamming them over and over.

General chat is a public channel for all players to use without having to suffer obscenity or racism. Players are free to create their own chat channels and/or use their guild chat and those are private and unmoderated by GMs. Furthermore, just because someone else said something worse, or something similar, ang got away with it, is no excuse. Finally, Nostalrius is not a soapbox for anyone's political or religious views and neither it is a platform for debate about social (or any other non-game related) issues. There are much more suitable websites and methods for that.
