Question about loot drama (The best kind)

by Pernicious apathy » Thu Jun 11, 2015 11:49 am

I've been informed that world chests require a roll, even if locked. and that they belong to the winner of the roll regardless of his or her ability to open it.

if someone else in the party is capable of opening it, they're required to use their skill to open said chest. refusing to do so is bad, and coming back for it later is "ninjaing"

I've also been informed that the same rule applies to things like the pristine hide, that the entire group gets a roll regardless of one persons skill making it happen or not.

are these statements accurate reflections of the desires of the community here?

"i dont have 300 lockpicking"
"its bugged sorry"
"i cant see the chest"

P.S.
When we run into a thorium vein in DM east is the miner required to roll for it?

please don't spiral this into a trollfest, i seriously need to know the answers to these questions. i don't like, or want drama. but i also don't want people throwing their crap in my face expecting me to just give them my property to avoid drama. =/

Mining requires you to pick the prof, lockpicking is specific to rogues because they are supposed to open for the group.

I don't see why you would care, rogues have all the power in this situation and can get the better end regardless of what the group politics are.

Chests on Nostalrius remain locked after a rogue has opened them once (might be fixed eventually) - that means that the only way for anyone to receive loot is if the rogue loots it and trades the loot. Also nobody can ever see what's inside except the rogue.

So if your group demands you roll, roll. If you lose, open the chest. If you see something you need/want, don't loot it, loot everything else and give to the winner. Go back to the chest later and loot the rest.

If lockpicking wasn't a skill you had to lvl up id say roll, but it does take a certain amount of time set aside to skill so in this case I believe its the rogues reward. Pristine hide is a different story as its worth a LOT more than the contents in the chest.

so you think chests are whoever can open them, but the hide should be rolled on?

I believe in the case of locked chests that it is up to the rogue who decides loot distribution given that he put in the time and effort into leveling LP and is the only one who can open said chest.

Without that rogue you wouldn't be able to open the chest anyway so you can't possibly feel entitled to the loot.

I agree.

Also Chests should be treated as a neutral loot that is subject to greed by all party members.
