Is this acceptable?

by Bleachy » Tue Aug 18, 2015 6:25 pm

I kill a warlock who is fighting a mob - He is about 2 or 3 levels lower than me.

He then logs on an alliance character and whispers me threats about how is going to enjoy camping me yada yada.

He then whispers me again a little time later and says "watch out I'm coming"

He admits that he is using the account to find the area I am in and then brings his 60 to gank me.

How is deemed as acceptable?

Not to sound like I'm defending the guy at all, but if he has an alliance and horde on the same account to do this... he's not multiboxing.

He's just drama surfing/sifting and spying then. No less scummy.

No, I don't think that's acceptable. I think it falls under the category of faction spying.

One thing's for sure though, you rekt his day, m8.

Just went through the Server Rules, it doesnt say anything about "Faction Spying" It doesnt even contain the words "Faction" or "Spying" so its not against the rules to use an alliance alt on the same account to find someone and know what they are doing.

There are grey areas too. Multiboxing has a lot of them and harassment could have some as well.

You make a good point. I distinctly remember Viper weighing in on this and decided to do some digging.

Though not explicitly defined in the terms of use, they consider it a form a multiboxing, as Aunstic mentioned, in a separate clarification thread.

Examples:
- Tagging BG with multiple accounts to force a queue pop.
- Spying on the enemy faction to know who is joining battlegrounds, mainly for the reason to dodge the queue or let this affect whether a player queues to the battleground or not.
- Spying on the enemy faction to know where X player is about to gank him.
- Being in a battleground on one character and farming herbs on the other.
- Killing your own character with the other.

In PvE:
Examples:
- Power leveling a character (I.e. using a higher level character to help the lower level one).
- Using multiple account to do a dungeon easier or help a raid.
- Doing a raid with one character, and farming with another one.

Multiboxing is playing two accounts at once, which means do something on both account at once. Sitting in a city and typing /who does not count as multiboxing.

Feel free to make a lvl 1 and /who whoever you want.

This might fall under harassment? But I highly doubt it will be punished in any ways. Since I doubt it is more of a harassment than killing someone 40 levels lower than you repeatedly

I know what multiboxing is. I said that there is grey areas for multiboxing so there can be grey areas for harassment in this case. It's for the staff to review it though.

If the guy isn't constantly inviting the person to a party or otherwise whispering the person he's trying to kill in a harassing tone ... I don't think the staff will even react.
