Why did you choose a Vanilla server?

by SuperDarly » Thu Oct 22, 2015 1:55 pm

Just throwing that question out there. I'm new to the server and I know my reasons for choosing, mainly I loved the old WoW and the fond memories before most of the expansions turned it into what it is now. Sit in hub city, RDF until leveled, do dailies and that's it. The world seemed so dead and quiet. Always thought the original WoW release had a lot of life to the zones, random PVP happening, etc...

Also, I don't have hours a day to play, so I know I won't blow through all the content in a couple months. The progression release of content also grabbed my attention :)

GJ on the server Nost team! Ingame name is Talbik (Gnome Warlock), still a lowbie but if anyone wants a leveling buddy or if a laid back guild is looking for more member, drop me a line in game, I'm usually on during the Eastern Timezone Mornings or Evenings.

I only played retail from the middle of TBC to a couple months after WotLK released. I never actually got to play the original WoW. So far I'm really digging it.

I consider everything after WotLK to be an abomination. I had the most fun in Vanilla and enjoy playing as close to the original game as we can experience today.

I started playing World of Warcraft during The Burning Crusade, and so I never experienced what the game was like before then. I became interested in it through the many positive things I heard people say about it, and through research I had done myself. Although I am still playing the game today, I do not have as much enthusiasm for it as I used to. I am disappointed by the changes they have made, as the game has been transformed because of them. Some changes have been good, but most have not been. After Warlords of Draenor, my desire to experience the game during its "golden age" led to my seeking a private server.

I found and tried many, but I ultimately left them behind. They were all poorly managed, with donation rewards, bugged quests and a population of a few hundred at the best of times. I could not enjoy myself there, and so I began searching for others. Of the ones I saw, "Nostalrius Begins" stood out to me. When I visited their website and saw promises of quality and a high population, I was hopeful. While reading their forums and watching their videos, I saw good things from both. I decided to try it, and I immediately noticed the difference compared to the other private servers. When I created a character and logged into the game, I was surprised by the several thousand people that were online. I did not think that that was possible for a private server, and so it was a welcome sight. In the time that I played, my gameplay was smooth, and I was not troubled by any lag or disonnections. I was especially pleased by the 1x rates, as I did not want the experience to be artificial.

After spending a few days playing, I knew I had found the right place, and I decided to stay. Experiencing classic was everything everybody described, and more. It was immersive, challenging, gratifying and meaningful. I felt like I had found where I truly belonged, and after spending a few months here, I now know that I would not trade it for anything.

I enjoy the slower pace of the game. I like that things take longer to do, because it gives them a more rewarding feel. In classic, the game still has a hobbyist element to it. I love the class diversity, every class has a completely unique feel to it--the game still seems like an RPG. The larger raid sizes give it a very epic feeling. Lastly, It feels good knowing that, I'm playing the version of the game that encompasses Blizzard's original vision for the game. That said, The Burning Crusade was pretty damn good too. ;)
