What is IRC?

IRC is some sort of instant messaging platform / Channel, where you can log in and talk to other people. It goes way back into the beginnings of the internet itself and can be very useful, as many people come together in one place and are able to chat with each other. Most times you are not required any form of registration, etc.

You can checkout the IRC of another WoW server (that is NOT bug free) here , if you want to see for yourself.

Also, I agree with the previous posters, that an IRC channel would be awesome, especially to coordinate raids, etc.

That would be a chaos with so many people talking at same time, isn't it?

Not really. You'd be surprised how few people even talk on IRC channels. Most just log in and lurk on it for new information or talk amongst the communities on them. And even more people don't even know what IRC is and never log on them.
So the % of players on Nostalrius actually talking on IRC channels would be very very low percentage.
But a lot of useful information and chat can go down in them. There's no reason NOT to lurk on IRC chats.
And they can be nice way to communicate very easily and fast among the community.
