I disagree with you. There is simply no reason not to answer that question, if it's a vague answer. Your only argument is - "Why should they?". And I tell you why: Because I want to know, how good finances are in order to estimate for my self how good the chances are that the server will be there for a long time. There are some simple answers to this question: "We finance it", "An Individual finances it", "We have funds from other projects", "You are going to finance it", "There is nearly no cost because we have connections".
I for example guess the later - since a lot of the Devs and Mods seem to be deep into programming and software Engineering, I think they have some connections and can maybe host this without many costs, by pulling some strings in their workplaces or knowing people that can arrange stuff. However tempting this might sound, I fear for example that when things might get a little rough because someone finds out that their is a lot of traffic crawling thru a network, people might get cold feet. However this is only speculation.
But what I want to know is: Will the server run still in a year? In 2? In 3? What if the Devs loose interest? What if resources are drained away? What if hosting doesn't come as cheap as predicted? For me, these question are related and of cause I think they have a plan and the server will run for many years, but why not tell? Only reason I see is that they use some connections and don't want to tell or they have funds for ~6 months and want to see that everything working until they take donations.
