Lets all play on the 28th and promote a good server, increase the population by talking to friends and the like. We will probably be informed about income necessities when it becomes needed. Until then, ENJOY THE HYPE TRAIN!

So, are they copying Rebirth's business plan to beg for donations when they run out of money?

I do not think it will come to that. Plus, why all the concern on funding, just enjoy the server. If you are so concerned about such things, send a PM to the devs. Don't speculate and get mad when someone offers a fair retort.

When Nost were still live some times ago, two others servers supported Nostalrius, and they are funded by shop on their website.
Don't know if this is still the case tho.

I disagree with you. There is simply no reason not to answer that question, if it's a vague answer. Your only argument is - "Why should they?". And I tell you why: Because I want to know, how good finances are in order to estimate for my self how good the chances are that the server will be there for a long time. There are some simple answers to this question: "We finance it", "An Individual finances it", "We have funds from other projects", "You are going to finance it", "There is nearly no cost because we have connections".

I for example guess the later - since a lot of the Devs and Mods seem to be deep into programming and software Engineering, I think they have some connections and can maybe host this without many costs, by pulling some strings in their workplaces or knowing people that can arrange stuff. However tempting this might sound, I fear for example that when things might get a little rough because someone finds out that their is a lot of traffic crawling thru a network, people might get cold feet. However this is only speculation.

But what I want to know is: Will the server run still in a year? In 2? In 3? What if the Devs loose interest? What if resources are drained away? What if hosting doesn't come as cheap as predicted? For me, these question are related and of cause I think they have a plan and the server will run for many years, but why not tell? Only reason I see is that they use some connections and don't want to tell or they have funds for ~6 months and want to see that everything working until they take donations.

Nostalrius was part of APS realms before, and their other realms had a shop where you could buy stuff (Not on nostalrius, but on the fun servers.) This influx of money enabled Nostalrius to be hosted. The devs aren't payed, but do their job very well and are 100% invested in what they're doing. Nostalrius was up for 4 years and didn't take donations.

It's concerning that the devs are not being transparent with their community. It's also concerning that legitimate questions are asked and the response from the community is conspiracy theory trolling, u mad? Grade A trolling from Ironsides, I like the strategically placed FF tabs.

When the devs run out of money, what are their options? Donations, donations for cosmetics, donations for gear (pay to win), pull the plug or tap the Illuminati bank account.

This to me is my biggest concern with this project, there's no transparency on how is it going to be funded, who are the devs, and no public bug tracker. At the risk of making an inflammatory comparison, Kronos has of all that, in Kronos you can see who are the devs, what are they working on, and the how the server is going to be funded.

I really want to play on Nos, but this lack of transparency really worries me, especially because I come from a server that hid information from it's players (Rebirth). I know many people are going to say "well it's free so you're not entitled to anything" but really, it's not about entitlement I just want to have the info available to make the right decision.

Fairly sure it's being funded with the money some other french server makes. Can be drug money for all I care though, I'm fine with anything as long as no factionchange or p2w bullshit.

Rebirth only needed cash to fund new servers once they realized their security was basically an open barn door. RIP that rebirth oceanic ping tho, god dam it was good.

They were open about everything, i don't see why everyone is so 420illumnuti over not knowing the revenue source for nos.
