Is there any link between nostalrius and nostalGeek ? I am confused

Not at all. Back then, they were two rival 1x french servers. Nostalgeek eventually won this battle and is still the main vanilla french server today.
In the aftermath, Nostalrius tried some strategies : instant 55, instant 60... But after months, they decided to scrap everything out, use English to be international and started the Begins project which was already advanced as they already had some years of development behind.
In the end, NG won its initial goal and NS thrived beyond it and became the main international server. Happy ending.

What exactly they did to achieve so many players and why timing was great?

i've heard that nostalrius has "stolen" a lot of players and hype from the kronos community, because nost launched 1 month ahead.

Omg I remember when I played on nostalrius, at beta or something. Was instant 60, all I did is mess around AV with the 2-3 players that were in, spamming world chat to call ppl to join. It had like 50 people online?

Also I remember at start there was some NPC that told you to talk to the king of your race. Then you dinged 60 instantly and you were given some blue gear. The gear had its name plus "blackened" before the name for some reason. I never could imagine nostalrius reaching this point

First thank you for your post, It makes me remember these times the server was very low populated you're describing very well. The community was very friendly and helpful. Great times indeed!

After the release i've created another mage under the name of Frögg. My old name was already taken

I applied in a very friendly guild named Purge. I loved the ambiance in that one, I joined them just in the beginning while most of the guys were lvl 30 ^^

I've then stopped for a while because of lack of time. And I'm back pvping a bit lately. Would love to raid again with them if I still have a spot in september

The players made their choice. You can't blame one server or the other for stealing. The players determined which had the superior (or least bugged) scripting/coding between the two, and here you are.

If it's about initiative, well, Kronos should've kept up then to be able to match release with Nost then. /shrug
Regardless, still player choices of time to dedicate/waste/spend/fun/grind.

I also think that the recent banwave also contributed to nostalrious population... anyway, i dont think is a blessing for having 10k population when the game its made to have 4k per servef at most (resources, mob spawn)
