American format: month first, then day. European format: day first, then month. Yea, it's fucked up. So is ninjaing stuff.

Counterintuitive system. The number is more easily understood if the length of the series is decreasing or increasing.
Day (shorter than a month) / Month (Shorter than a year) / Year.
Opposite could work too. Year (longer than a month) / Month (longer than a day) / Day.

The way the American system works just follows neither sequence. Tradition maybe, but a counterintuitive one.
