The woweurope archive link is interesting though, but it doesn't say anything about a weapon skill specific mechanic in PvP, what Blizzard says on this page could just be the reflection of the mechanic thanks to which you don't need as much +hit to fight players above you than you do against mobs, and that's it.

I do understand the OP is talking about spell resist but you asked specifically about weapon skill. I would assume there is a similar mechanic at play with spells as just raising casters weapon skills would hardly be fair.

Whilst wowwika may not be the best source around It seems unlikely it is completely inaccurate in this regard.

I also don't believe the OP's experiences can be explained away by racial resists, as an alliance mage no Horde race has innate resistance to the frost, fire or arcane schools.

Youfie wrote:Regarding your statement about Weapon Skill, well, coould you find any proof about that ? :)

This one is absolutely true. Haven't you noticed that your unleveled weapon hits an enemy player as much as your fully leveled one, yet it misses a mob much, much more?[/quote]

I'm not saying this isn't true guys, I'm just asking for clarifications and proofs other than mere "I remember it, and that 2014 wowwiki page says so".

As far as I'm concerned nope, I don't remember specifically such things from 2005/2006 :). That definitely does not mean this mechanic didn't exist, cause memories from 10 years ago aren't something to be relied on ;)

Sure :).

I'm just always quite cautious regarding thread about this kind of mechanic, especially when no actual proofs can be given, we all see dozens of bug reports every day that are jsut working as intended content that the OP thought should work as it did in 3.X ;).

Well you are absolutely correct in that speculation doesn't count for much. Those of us who did pvp in vanilla will just have to accept that there is something very different going on with the mechanics on private servers, we aren't sure what exactly and we can't find solid proof, only lots of anecdotal accounts. I guess we are out of luck.

Found this, it's wowiki again but It seems unlikely this is just completely made up

https://web.archive.org/web/20060614015 ... resistance

"When an offensive spell is cast, the target has two seperate chances to resist the attack.

First, there is a roll based purely on the level difference between the caster and the target. If the target is significantly higher level, the spell will usually fail completely. If the target is significantly lower level, the spell will very rarely fail. This first roll is why spell casting players have such a hard time landing spells consistantly on all monsters a few levels higher. In PvP combat, it is much less of a factor. A level 10 Mage can very often land polymorph on a level 60 player. (Does this still apply after the lower rank spell behaviour changes? --Stilpu) "

as far as I remember, with pvp hit capped, you shouldnt miss a spell, given that you dont encounter resistances or any other factors that should add a miss/resist chance.

There isnt and wasnt an 1% miss chance no matter what. Ever.

From my experience thus far there is a definite issue....intended/blizlike or not I can't speak too (since 10 years ago I leveled a warrior not a priest).

But when my leveling partners (warrior/rogue) can hit and kill a ?? and I cannot land a single spell.. I see an issue.

I am leveling as a healer so I don't care that much, but it would be nice to land a SWP, mana drain, hell even a fear.

He's referencing 1% miss chance in pvp, which is correct. The hardcap 1% miss chance refers only to spells on raid bosses.

Oh, well it might no apply in PvP indeed :), I'm not too sure about that tbh. I thought he spoke in general, which was rather.. funny :).
