Anyways, essentially GDKP is a group of raiders who take a group of players on a free run through an instance. During this run when loot drops, this said group gets to bid on items using gold and the highest bidder gets the item. At the end of the raid all of the gold is split between the raiders.

This system can vary with groups, some reserve items and don't bid at all, and sometimes there isn't a group, but rather one person with a ton of gold who pays for everything they receive. I would also argue that this is much easier to do in Vanilla considering Blizzard designed their raid instances with afk'ers and shit players in mind for 40 mans.

I actually should have and did drop it into google. I don't know why I thought it was something unique to Feenix. Never heard of it before. No one did this type of thing in the years that I played.

So now I get the jest of the idea, and while it seems like a decent idea... in practice I question it. If Blizzard intended for you to just trade gold around and auction boss drops, they probably would have just made all the drops BoE in the first place. But that said, it doesn't sound like a bad practice. Why exactly is everyone against this?

Using GDKP in a pre-managed and premade system should be fine. Like a Guild.

However when it comes to pugs GDKP is often a bad idea.

The problem with GDKP is that in some runs you can't join if you don't show the leaders that you have the minimum amount of gold required to bid on stuff and sometimes the runs are led by some guilds that start biding on items to increase the value and make others outside the guild bid higher.

Feenix Emerald Dream has every single level 60 exploiting for copious amounts of cash. Feenix Warsong lets you generate free gold out of their website and exploit for copious amounts of cash.

Nostalrius fixes exploits (gold in this case) found unlike Feenix, and has a 5 instance limit.

GDKP's were incentives for top tier players to go back to old tier content and clear it for newer players and community. it gave incentive through gold by running a lower tier raid with your upper tier geared character. I've seen it a lot on Rift and it only works well if the people organizing it are geared and can accommodate for the raid requirements/compositions. IE Tanks/healers/tranq shot.

I wouldn't consider it being viable until BWL is on farm status, then I could see it appear from the high end guilds to help build up the community and make it accessible for new players, granted if they have the gold for it. It is also an incentive for top end guilds to help rebuild the guild bank cash for progression raiding costs and consumbables, best way to generate cash for such items? run GDKP to the public and score copious amounts of money to replenish the guild stock/reserves for the real top tier raids. it goes hand in hand for the newer players and the top end guilds.

I wouldn't consider GDKP's on feenix realms to be accurate as gold is handed out like candy from exploits/x12 rates on warsong/ etc.

It all depends on the community honestly and it could be advantageous for pvp aspect as well. (horde have more geared players from gdkps than alliance who refuse to do it)

once AQ/Naxx is out, I can see it being popular.
