Reading this thread makes me think our guild is doing loot council in a wrong way. For example, we had at least 3 bis rogue items dropping during our BWL progress, yet the rogue class leader got none of them :?

Looking a guild with a reasonably-corrupt loot council!

2. Billy will always have more DKP than anyone who joined the guild after him.
3. Billy outbids everyone on items that are barely an upgrade, or he wants them for the looks

You mean time spent raiding is proportionate to the returns you get? What a fucking outrage! How dare the people who show up every week get rewarded for literally carrying their guild.

4. Billies are aware of this and distribute loot as evenly as possible, gearing up the most important raiders first (Tanks) and making sure everyone is happy with the decisions made, otherwise the guild breaks apart.

This is a false dichotomy. In practice, distribution is often kept as unfair as possible without crossing the line into guild-breaking insanity.

Your CL is a sword rogue. Your sword rogue passed on a dagger (cool), a shitty set-bonus breaking druid belt, and a chest that drops every other week (probably because he's waiting for 5pc nightslayer.)

If he'd passed on the DFT that drops once every six months or the first CTS you might have a point.

Just because something isn't grossly corrupt doesn't mean it's not corrupt.

This does not incorporate performance. Giving loot to someone because they managed to sit down, log in, and braindead semi-afk through a raid for an hour is an excellent idea, Yes! More medals of participation! More!

If morons run a guild, moronic choices are made. You can't run around yelling every guild is doing it just because they use LC.

Performance means dick. You don't need to perform well to excel in this game, you only need a pulse and an IQ above 85. Fairness is the only relevant concern when it comes to vanilla loot distribution.

But should performance be such a great concern for you, dock poor players DKP, or kick them out of the guild.

I always found customized methods best way to decide.

-DKP hidden bid: prices were not fixed, the one which bid higher is the one who gets it. I saw players with insane DKP using (almost) them all on a single item, because he really wanted it. This lead to a DKP balance between older and newer players.

-GC elibile roll: GC decides only who are the most worth to have it (from 2 to 3), decide about a single person is always hard and might lead to disappointment, the eligible ones roll for it, who wins get it. At least you blame your luck mostly.

Only way to game dkp hidden bid is setup loot cartels "uhhuhu hey guys lets bid x amount so y gets it"; otherwise, a briti gud system.

All loot systems are flawed in one way or another. Mostly because of the people participating in that loot system. People will always feel they deserve more gear than they get and think others deserve less than they receive.

If people cared as much as they do about loot as they do about using the gear they have to maximum efficiency there would be way more guilds with Nef down.

I find this funny because most of the people whinning about loot council aren't even in guilds with loot councils.
That's the way the cookie crumbles.
