LMFAO many melee players tried that in STV and i still can auto the fuck out of those melee players behind the trees. That one is literally impossible unless devs fixes that. xD

All classes in vanilla are easy to get into, but difficult to master. The Hunter is no exception, just that the basics are even easier than most classes. As long as you know how to auto-shot and send in your pet, you can kill any mob your level while being afk and still end up with 100% health afterwards, because your pet takes all the damage. This lead to many especially unskilled players roll Hunters, also most bots in those times were Hunters for the same reason.

If a player is able to master the Hunter to a good degree, it also becomes a very powerful PvE class. With ice trap and the right skills, it is not difficult to fight 3 mobs at once. As a beastmaster-specced Hunter you can even tank instances. And since you can heal your pet and do damage, a good Hunter is basically his own group. This and the general lack of skill of other players during vanilla times made many Hunters loners, because why bother with a tank that has less aggro than your pet and even takes more damage? On the other hand a bad Hunter that did not use any of those class abilities was one of the worst DPS classes you could possibly add to your group. So most of the times you had a Hunter that either sucked badly, or made you feel like you were one of his pets just worse.

And then Blizzard designed the class in a way, that they can potentially use every non-plate item in the game, as all stats are useful for some aspect of the Hunter. This caused some players to basically roll need on everything, even healer gear with the famous excuse "For pet-heal equip".

Needless to say a class that was preferred by "noobs", while elitist-Hunters looked down on everyone, and that also rolled need on everything wasn't very famous during vanilla.

I haven't really heard that many people refer to hunters as a class for noobs, the prejudice I hear much more frequently is that it is a class populated by noobs.

That probably comes from the fact that hunters are the master of pulling extra mobs as a result of having a pet that often agroes extra mobs when not handled with caution and having to move around a bit to compensate for the dead zone.

yea there actually are 2 groups of players that are mad at hunters.

1st is those that are jelly, butthurt baddies that see hunters solo 60s instances and stuff and so think that class is totally op, thus it must be easy to play.

2nd group is pretty much the opposit. these players think all hunters are noobs because hunters always accidently add mobs, thus wiping their grp or roll need on wierd items. (this opinion used to be the way more popular one during retail vanilla)

combining both, only 1 possible conclusion remains:
hunters are difficult to play. thats why so many bad/normal players, that wouldve never had caught anyones attention if they played another class, tend to wipe their group - etc.
but if you're a good player, you appear to be op to others, because the hunter class does not skillcap you as early as other classes do.

They're considered a noob class because they are a noob class. Most people would be dettered from playing a mage/rogue/warrior to 60 if they noticed they were awful at it on the way to 60, but hunters don't give you a chance to make that revelation.

They do have a decent skillcap, at least at 60, until ashjrethul and nerubian slavemaker though.

I kind of find classes with heals easier, like Shaman or Priest. Hunter is more relaxing though. I like being a hunter but it's a shame we get the flack for attracting noobs.

I didn't wanna get involved with this post... but are you serious, haha.

This is WORLD OF WARCRAFT... most range spells go through trees and ground terrain.

The main reason I can use to justify Hunter hatred is that they roll on EVERYTHING. BiS armor for Rogues? A Hunter will need on it despite better Mail pieces being available. Same goes for weapons.

The next is their damn pet. "HOLY FUCK! WHO PULLED THE WHOLE DUNGEON???" "Sorry, my pet didn't path properly." "YOU HAVE IT ON AGGRESSIVE!" "I was trying to offtank with it lol"

As far as PvP goes, I think Rogues are far more bastards than Hunters are.

Of course, YMMV.
